Oh, I'm not saying O'Carroll is blameless about the twitter thing, far from it. I'm just saying that I don't see why the club didn't have that statement prepared and then release it once they'd told him. They must have had some inkling he wouldn't take too kindly to it, and it was leaked on here as well so it was just inviting rumours and speculation. Waiting until the day after he's left out of the team just seems strange.

could definitely have been handled better, but that is a fairly frequent occurence, even under AP, which makes me think it's more syptomatic of the culture.

To right -Midnight on Saturday Night clubs do not make statements. As it is do we know the reasons for his release yet.

Nor do I believe midnight on a Saturday night is when clubs tell players they are surplus to requirements, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

As far as I am aware - and I did see this myself it all broke around if not Midnight very late on Saturday Night. Now even if it happened Saturday Lunchtime surely there must have been some sort of agreement as to when it would be in the Public Domain. O'Corroll tweeting as far as I am concerned was not very bright.

Wolfie had it on here at lunchtime. Regardless of there being an agreement, the facts remain that O'Carroll was in the 19, then was told he could go and was not going to play. It's not rocket science for the club to realise that upset player + notable absence from selection = good chance of story getting out, especially when we apparently have a couple of 'insiders' happily spreading any sort of muck they can work with to anyone who'll listen (or just happen to be within earshot). O'Carroll may not have been very bright for putting it on Twitter, but the club were at least as stupid for not announcing it themselves with current circumstances. Today was always going to be after the horse had bolted.

Regardless of O'Carroll saying it on Twitter, it seems as though Smailes knew too but was beaten to announcing it by O'Carroll.

I don't really care how it came out, it's all guess work at this stage about what did and didn't happen. If Gentle is getting shut then there is a reason, as head coach I back him.
