It's a Fleur-de-lis. Why we have it is because the Club was founded by men from the Holy Trinity Church.

it translates into English as "Flower of the Lily" and its religious meaning was thought to represent The Holy Trinity; the Fleur de Lis on a blue backgound was also, for around 500 years until the 1970s the Coat of Arms of Wakefield Borough Council until Local Goverment reorganisation and we became a Metropolitan County Council.

This seems a bit OTT, I'll admit, but for me the rebranding back to just Trinity is the best thing that's happened in years.

Interesting debate this one. In the context of the club, does it represent the Trinity part or the Wakefield part? I guess it depends on when it was first used. I think the club was the Holy Trinity Club when it was first formed in 1873, but when did it change and when did it use the fleurs-de-lys?. So: Wakefield or Trinity? Lily or iris? fleur-de-lys or fleur-de-lis? heraldic or religious? France or Mesopotamia?
