it translates into English as "Flower of the Lily" and its religious meaning was thought to represent The Holy Trinity; the Fleur de Lis on a blue backgound was also, for around 500 years until the 1970s the Coat of Arms of Wakefield Borough Council until Local Goverment reorganisation and we became a Metropolitan County Council.
