Re: Grix announced : Tue Sep 27, 2016 8:41 am
I'm baffled by the reaction to this signing - for sure Grix isn't a world beater and wouldn't be our first choice FB... but isn't that Max Jowitt, who has been the recipient of high praise all season? Were people suddenly expecting us to sign a player who would slot straight in above him?!

Grix is one of the best utility backs in SL - in that he can cover the whole back line with a fair degree of competency; and if accounts are to be believed, a super-committed, serious pro who takes his own fitness and conditioning very seriously - with lads like Jowitt, Mazive and Johnstone cementing regular slots, I'd have thought that would be a boon in terms of providing a good role model?

Well said Bren. I think it was Chester who said its what Grix brings on and off the field. Something similar anyhow. Perhaps we need more of a professional attitude within the club.

I've nothing to share - just pointing out that unless you in the room when all this was planned you can't possibly know the whys or wherefores. I think we have looked for a player with a better attitude as well as contributing to the team, but I don't know this.

I to am baffled by the reactions on here but not surprised, some of the most long winded and regular posters on here live in a reality vacuum.

First of all I can't for the life of me understand those who "claim" they were glad to see Grix go - liars all of them. Grix was popular in his first stint with us and although not the start of the team he was of value which is more than can be said for some who stayed.

Second he's versatile and has already been stated honest and hard working, the basis of any good RL player.

How does anybody on here know that 2 years is a bad deal. Maybe he said he'd play one season for 40k but two for 60k - it's a gamble but if he does have two years left in him it's a good deal. But then the experts on here would know that wouldn't they 8)

Lastly when you consider the two players he's most likely replacing Owen/Tansey then he looks an astonishingly good buy.

And as an aside, Jordan Tansey's Twitter page reads, rugby player for Castleford Tigers, has he gone back to Cas?

OK Vasty so if you are in charge of recruitment you will ignore a players age, his recent injuries, his loss of pace, his poor tackle technique, the fact that you have three players already in the squad who are better in new players position, that better younger players are available at less money. You would also sign a player who no other SL club wants and give him a full time salary and a player who has a terrible hair cut. Not forgetting that he couldn`t get away from the place quick enough last time we rescued his career.
