That's just jogged my memory!
We went to see Brendan Croker and the 5 o'clock Shadows in a tent (well it was a big tent) in Pontefract park (I kid you not). Whilst we were queuing to get in, I said to my other half that I was sure that I'd just seen Mark Knopfler getting out of a limo, she told me not to be so soft (or words to that effect). Anyway, half way through the concert, Brendan Croker introduced a special guest. So Mark Knopfler playing in Pontefract park was a bit special!
On a similar theme, I was once in a pub in Masham when in walked the lead vocalist and writer for the Strawbs ie Dave Cousins. After a couple of pints of Old Peculier, the landlord persuaded DC to get his guitar out of his car boot and we had an intimate concert to a couple of dozen people. Again that was special.

Mark Knopfler and Brendan croker were two of the main elements of the Notting Hillbillies i believe, One album (Missing presumed having a good time) must dig it out again and have a listen.
