The referee is always right Brian, even when he is completely wrong.

The referee needs to be out there to be right! Priceless comment that was! Ref's shouldn't be protected the way that they are, a coach should have the right to criticise things. If nobody points out mistakes then you cannot rectify them. As long as it is done in the correct manor then it should be no problem. Everybody in their daily jobs are held accountable for their actions, why shouldn't ref's be???

Could not agree more, but instead they hide behind stupid rules like:


C2:8
No Person subject to these Operational Rules shall make any public statement (written or oral) or cause to be published or post online material or content which contains criticism of the character of a Match Official or criticism of the manner in which a Match Official has officiated at a Match (whether a Match in which the Club or Player has taken part, or of any other game under the control of the RFL).

They may hide behind these crazy rules, but it doesn't make it right. If it was an isolated incident that gets criticised then fair enough, however this season I do not think that a week has gone by where there hasn't been a coach of a team not happy with the ref (both SL and Championship). This points directly at the fact that there is something wrong. It's been a joke for a number of years now, but this season has taken it to a new level altogether and way beyond a joke. I don't think there are many people on these forums that don't work hard to earn the money to go and watch their team and so all we want in return for handing over the hard earned cash is a level playing field from the men in the middle and some consistency (not consistently rubbish!). Surely this is not too much to ask??!!

The powers that be will not be listening. They didn't listen to Agar or Webster and they won't bother to listen to Brian Smith either. There should be a procedure that enables coaches to discuss issues with the referees. Maybe we need to look at each ref; their pet hates and rules they don't follow in the same way as we look at key players and weaknesses in the opposition.

Mr Bliss you make an interesting point. Refs seem to have certain things they target and will penalise on a regular basis. Im sure Brian Smiths aware of the fact but may need some assistance in the refs who do what . Im constantly frustrated at the inconsistency of the refs ball steeling, laying on and moving off the mark seem to be the things most blow up for.
