Gotta say the quality this year was phenomenal and Sweden were the deserved winners.
UK entry as usual was sheeeeeite.
Yeh, I know its's not rugby related but a change of conversation can often be a good thing.
Eurovision is what it is, a chance for nations who generally offer nothing to modern culture to shine once a year - I don't begrudge them that.
Truth is the UK and the USA have been battling it out for cultural world dominance for years and whilst we were beaten in movies almost from the start we have remained resilient in TV and the top of the pile in music - ironic when you consider Rock'n'Roll is a most American invention. Whether you think we are still on top probably depends on taste however with the like of The Beatle, The Stones, The Who, Led Zepplin, Elton John, The Bee Gees, The Clash, The Pistols and on and on.... historically we nail it.
My laboured point is?
With all that we have to offer it's unlikely that a somewhat silly if amusing competition like Eurovision will ever attract from the UK anything other than bottom feeder acts. So we will never win it again IMHO which is a bit sad but we can live with it.
Funny thing is we have in Garry Barlow a guy who could write you a Eurovision winner on the back of a fag packet in 15 minutes - problem is that would be to low in prestige even for him.
Cultural snob - me - hell yeah, what else have we got left!
