Top six 2005 - Trinity.

Re: Team v Wigan : Fri Mar 27, 2015 10:25 pm
It wasn't a half bad starting line up tbh. Mum really getting fed up with the trash we are turning out these last 3 games.

We are stood feet planted as a defensive line and that's crept in the last few games.

Starting with washy (who has been good this year at SR) at 9 and the ruck is so slow it hurts us early stages massively.

Throwing ball into touch and opposition hands and the amount of unfinished sets and knock ons is absolutely criminal!!

I don't think the blame fully rests with Webster and there's injuries but by god he needs change something and put a rocket up some backsides.

For the first season I can see us finishing bottom even though I think the team is one of the best we have had in any SL season.

Just incredibly fed up with it now but I'll be there against Catalans and I expect something better to be served up.

For crying out loud, when are some Trinity fans going to wake up & smell the coffee?

How often do we go to Wigan & come away with a win, never mind with half of our squad in the stand!

We’re in a competition with the smallest budget of all other clubs, do people really think the top eight is achievable?

There will be three other S.L clubs at the end of the regular season in the middle eight with us, only they have probably spent near enough up to the cap. Our season starts there & hopefully with a relatively healthy squad I think we can avoid relegation.

Yes people can dream of an upturn in fortunes, with a top eight finish, & maybe a extended run in the C.C – but really  .

Who's said anything about a top 8 finish?

Your comments concur with what I initially said. With the smallest budget in the league, we have the worst squad and now the injuries have bitten it's only going to make things harder.

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround."

An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.

Tonight was an exception injury wise with Kirmo and Tim Smith missing but even so some of the defence was way too soft. But up to last week against Huddersfield the only players missing from my own personal first choice 17 were Lyne, Godinet & Paea, the others that are injured would be my squad members. Yes we could do to be able to rotate one or two, especially in the front row, but this team should be doing better than an avarage of 35 points a game conceded.

How did Sammut play? Sounded like we had a good spell but then threw ball to other team something we do every week.

So Anderson wouldn't be in your 17?

The good hiding was predictable I'm afraid. Several players out, Wigan under pressure for a big win and everything went to form.
IF we can only sort out that defence we will start winning games.
With a full team we can attack with the best but I think I could be the defence coach at the moment!

Re: Team v Wigan : Sat Mar 28, 2015 9:29 am
credit to the fans who went and supported the ream. Credit to the players as I imagine it has been a tough week . That said even with all the players fit we are trying to play a style of Rugby that as a whole the team is simply not technically good enough to carry out. We are trying to play open attractive rugby, as a result we are making handling errors, not completing our sets and handing over the ball in good field position for the other side. The coaching staff have got to now start preparing for the middle eight and that means going back to the basics, we have to play simple no mistakes Rugby untill we get into the final third of the field, that means lots of scoots from dummy half and one out rugby when we are bringing the ball out of defence. Back that up with a simple kicking game of kicking deep and chasing hard. Only play Rugby when in the final third, always take the two points on offer from penalties. This simple game plan should also be able to be understood by the players as I think they are confused with the system we are trying to play at the moment which is leading to some very poor decision making. In McShane, Smith, Ali, Sammut and Godinet we have players who can cause problems when near the lin.
The players are also struggling to understand whatever our defensive plan is, I watched the Huddersfield game from behind the posts and to be honest at times we looked amateurish , there was no structure and players looked lost. Again get back to basics and get some passion, desire and agression back into our defence. We have no line speed in defence we are moving a couple of paces and stopping we have got to change this, we have several poor one on one defenders who need to be told that they have to leg tackle.
The lads are doing it tough with the injury situation and I admire their courage but unless the coaching staff need to get us back to basics. Our defence is letting in 30 odd points a match, we have to change, its not to late.

Actually forgot about him so yes probably so, although it would be harsh on Dan Smith who i rate highly and has been one of our most consistant performers so far. He is only young so we need to be careful with him but he needs to play more often than not and Washbrooks form would probably keep him out of the loose forward position. Scruton, Paea and Simon would be my other choices with Kirke to rotate them when needed. Personal choice though.

All doesn't alter the fact that i believe the team out there right now is better than it is performing. Last night i expected a defeat but i thought against an out of form Wigan team who themselves had maybe 7 of there probable 1st choice 17 missing we would have been a little more competitive.
