The team tomorrow isn’t a bad one but Lockers aside there isn’t that quality there that the 94 side had. It had Connolly, Offiah, Robinson, Edwards, Farrell, Betts and so on in it, so it was clearly a very classy side. The Brisbane side was packed full of quality as well but the Roosters side tomorrow is as tough as it comes at the minute. They’ve got some of the worlds best players, the Aussie captain, the Aussie fullback, the Aussie stand off, an all time legend at scrum half, a pack of international forwards. On paper it’s a miss match and in salary spend it’s an even bigger one.

A win tomorrow would be pretty unbelievable.

100% agree. Exactly what im trying to get at. Whilst it wont be remembered in historic terms like the 94 win, it would be a much bigger achievement in terms of the complete mismatch in the players on both teams.

It's a home game, and we're two games into the season, so those factors alone make the 1994 game a bigger achievement imo.

Really looking forward to it now. I'd be much more confident if we had Bateman, Tomkins and Wane involved, but we still have players capable of causing any team in the world problems when we're on form, and we shouldn't be losing our big game defence overnight.

They're justifiably favourites, but a Wigan win wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

Wigan went into the Brisbane game without Bell, Skerrett and Betts plus a new coach in Graeme West. I would say those three players were just as if not more influential than Tomkins, Bateman and Sutton.

The problem is that you can't cancel it just because you think you will lose.

One point I’d make on the debate is not many Wigan players would get in a combined Wigan/Roosters side tomorrow. I can only think of Gildart (because Mitchell isn’t playing) and Lockers really and that sums up the size of the task. In comparison a decent number of Wigan players would’ve made a combined Wigan/Brisbane side in 1994.

It’s not to do the 1994 achievement down at all, it was incredible and probably the best win in our history but tomorrow would be right up there IMO. It’s a miss match on paper but it’s pretty exciting to think what a great feeling it would be should we pull off a shock.

I certainly wouldn’t cancel the game. Just look at it as an opportunity and don’t get too down if we do take a hiding.

Betts played in the Brisbane game, he scored the first try!

I completely disagree with you. Tomkins and Bateman alone are a much bigger loss because we dont have the back up players to replace them. In 94 we replaced Bell by moving Connolly to fullback and bringing in Panapa and replaced Skerrett with McGinty who was a GB international. The 94 team could withstand those two player losses and still had world class players in almost every position, this team cant and has only one real world class talent who is at the twilight of his career and well past his peak even if he is still a great player.

Obviously i didnt mean come out and say they are cancelling it 'because we think we will lose', but they could of cancelled it citing other reasons such as abnormal disruption due to new coach, loss of players and wanting to concentrate on the season ahead.

My concern is the negative effect it could have on the team if we get hammered by 40 points, it could even be more if the Roosters are on fire, we may be looking at 50+ if we have an off day. Not only that, what an embarrassment for Super League and the game as a whole. The Roosters are an whole different ball game to the Cronulla team we beat 2 years ago.
