Wigan went for a quarter final but have missed out, to Bolton, Hull, Huddersfield and Anfield.

Seems strange but it’s hard to criticise without knowing the details, you have to presume the bid from Wigan was too weak, or the price of renting the DW stadium too high.

There are 3 group games in each of Leigh, Warrington, St Helens, Leeds, Workington and surprisingly Doncaster.

Group games are keeping the money in Rugby League, who can argue against that.

Shame there are no smaller venues being used in the North West. Had a great time watching Fiji v Ireland at Spotland in 2013.

Said exactly the same to a mate of mine. It was a fantastic occasion that night at Spotland and as much as it may not be the most glamorous of locations, the Fijian and Irish communities came out and made it a memorable night.

Hopefully these Fijian fans will travel to the likes of Leigh or Warrington in similar numbers.

I don't understand the fascination with holding games at football grounds Leeds shouldn't be having 2 venues

Of course you’ve got to use football grounds, they’ve got the higher capacities.

Most likely the new owners of the DW are reaping the rewards of the Whelan era. Let's not pretend that he was always the easiest landlord to deal with where RL was concerned.

Why on earth they've gone back to Coventry baffles me - the 4 nations games there a couple of years ago were the most soul destroying few hours I've had the misfortune to sit through. However the WC boss is quoted as saying "...Leigh Sports Village is part of Wigan." Erm, eh ?!
