Sam was excellent last night in the halves, Escare was very good at full back, Woods struggled and Powell was just horrendous again but I have no faith that things will be changed.

Powell is being hung out to dry. If we don’t get him out the halves then we can wave any chances of getting to Old Trafford goodbye. He is a hooker and a hooker only.

I think that is fair enough but our pack doesn't give those guys a platform to play from. Sam Moa showed our guys how props should play.

That’s probably the most impressive thing about them tbh, to lose a top quality player like Walmsley and hardly have an issue replacing him is some going. I think the bulk of the praise on that front needs to go to Luke Thompson and (through gritted teeth) McCarthy-Scarsbrook. They’ve been excellent in his absence and drove them forward. The other two props in Amor and Douglas look pretty average even in a team playing that well.

I am not convinced about the Saints pack, I think the Wire 6 showed how to beat them.

Sam Moa did some eye catching things but I’m not sure it was a great deal more impressive in real terms then say Flower or Clubb. He made 19 tackles, missed 6 and ran for 80m from 13 carries. Not too bad but not really a lesson in how to play the position. I think the flying challenges on Navarette maybe made it look a bit more impressive then it was (my eyes probably played tricks on but the first one I felt was a really poor challenge to the head).

Hamlin in comparison made 30 tackles, missed only one and made 95m from 13 carries.

An injury to Thompson would really hurt them IMO but I’ve got to credit how some previously average (and in some cases awful) players have stepped up to a level I felt they were incapable of previously. In saying that I tend to agree and I think in a big game (semi or final) we can take them if we’re on and play as we can.

I’ve said it before but we need Farrell to heal quickly. He’s so important to our whole game plan and interchange plans. We let him wheel away at an incredible intensity for 80 minutes and spell the rest of the team around him. We’ve missed him massively these past few weeks.

Wigan, Cas and Wire pushing for that 2nd spot will be the only fun bit of the Super 8s. Suppose us 3 still have something to play for unlike the other 5.

Don't like travelling to you guys. Think the fixtures look pretty tide for you. You should have a 1 point advantage on us for Super 8s

Ours (if we win tomorrow vs Widnes will be)

Home:
Warrington - Huddersfield - Wakefield - Catalan
Away:
Saints - Wigan - Hull

4 winnable home games for us but 3 very tough away games.

Re: Super 8 Fixtures : Sun Jul 29, 2018 7:56 am
I wouldn't say Hull away is a tough one - they are the side currently imploding, and with nothing to play for in the next 7 games, what is there to motivate a group who have got into a losing mentality?

I agree that the only interest left in the Super 8 season is who will get the other home semi-final. I expect Wigan, Cas & Wire to be on sky sports pretty much every week.

Also, three of the eight teams groundshare with professional football clubs. Looking at the fixtures for Hull City, Wigan Athletic & Huddersfield Town and assuming SL will not want to create a fixture clash situation, means that we will host Hull on the weekend of either 1 or 29 Sep, and travel to Huddersfield on either 18 Aug or 22 Sep.

Free weekends at the DW are 11 Aug, 8 Sep, 15 Sep, 29 Sep.
Free weekends at the John Smiths are 18 Aug, 1 Sep, 8 Sep, 22 Sep
Free weekends at the KCom are 11 Aug, 8 Sep, 22 Sep.

If my logic prevails, and Saints get to Wembley, then it means we have a 66% chance of playing them the weekend before the cup final or the weekend after.

I think it’s become very tough to call with teams having a rather dramatic upsurge in form or to the other extreme in that form has gone down the toilet.

In my heart of hearts I’d say us making the GF is unlikely, given our issues. But you can’t predict anything and I would of course be happy to make the GF (even if I’m bloody working on GF night! :DEPRESSED:)
