A number of Wigan players did not play last tonight because of the plastic pitch at Widnes! Burgess went off injured because of the pitch! not only that why is it only Wigan and maybe 2 or 3 other SL pitches make the specified measurments :READING:

It's true Wane will not play certain players on the plastic pitch but Burgess did not go off because of the pitch. He fell awkwardly after contesting a ball in the air.

Fell awkward but landed on that pitch. Its different for landing on. Lets hope its not as bad as first feared.

These pitches have no place in RL

It’s weird because the NFL use them with no problems and it’s a similar enough game in terms of running and tackling on it. Also, even though Widnes have a lot of current injuries, most of them are not down to the pitch.

There were two soccer teams that played on the Widnes pitch and both have withdrawn. They said the pitch wasn't up to standard.
This year Burgess has been lost to injury there, last year Shorrocks and 2016 Nick Gregson, all with leg/knee injuries.
I think it was 2016 when Tommy Makinson did his knee/leg there and missed the rest of the season.
This really does need looking at.

Blaming the pitch is an easy thing to do. There are plenty unfortunate similar injuries that occur on grass too.

It would be interesting to see the stats for those kind of injuries before jumping to conclusions

It would for sure because it’s easy to just blame any injury on the pitch yet injuries happen on all surfaces. Look at our last two years at Cas. We lost Manfredi to a nigh on two year injury in July 2016 and then two players to season ending injuries in 2017 but it’s a standard field and was in pretty good shape on both occasions.

Fingers crossed for Burgess. Talk about bad timing! He was just getting back in top gear and I thought he was excellent again last night.

Yep. Just seen that Ben Currie is out for the season with an ACL injury sustained v Bradford in the cup.

Just watched the highlights on Wigan TV. It looked to me as though as he was landing the Widnes player who was challenging for the ball bent Burgess’ knee in a direction it should not bend. I can’t see how anyone could attribute that injury to the pitch.
