Why do we not send Sammy out on loan to get some first team experience,from what I've seen he's got bags of talent being wasted in the reserves

I agree. I know he's still young, but he's a massive prospect (in more ways than one!) He's got all the attributes to be a great #13 for us, IMO.

He's played two games at Swinton on dual reg.

There’s a number of lads who could do with getting out on loan at the minute. The lack of playing time for the likes of Shorrocks, Ganson, Field etc at their age and the stages of their careers is just a disgrace.

Yes, if they were in Australia they'd be playing to a good standard every week in the Queensland Cup or whatever. Which is why you see 19-20 year old rookies walk into NRL sides and look right at home; they've already had that experience under their belts.

I can’t believe how it’s not being sorted out. It really is a shambles the state of things in this country at the moment. I follow Penrith Panthers on Instagram (I suppose I’d call them my Aussie team) and I noticed this morning back to back pictures of the women’s team playing then the u20’s and then the first team. There’s the Queensland cup sides to fill in the gaps as well. There’s enough rugby to keep players of all ages progressing.

Over here we’ve got our best lads at 19/20 not playing from one month to the next. We will never close the gap on the Aussies. We didn’t stand a chance of ever getting on an even keel with them anyway but we’re letting ourselves fall further and further behind and all to save a few quid.

I’ve never been as down on the state of the game as I am at the minute.

For the better of the game i believe we at some point will need to start another wigan team which will play at robin park and act as our feeder club. They would start in bottom division and so on. Do away with dual reg. it doesnt work. It might be seen as arrogant but it might be the only way to keep these players coming through. Other clubs dont have this problem as they dont produce the same as us.

I don't understand your idea, can you explain it further? How would this team differ from Pats?

It would be run as a professional club. We get nothing out of loaning players to workington or swinton. Might as well run another club where we would benefit from it and loan our players to ourself’s.

Like a Barcelona B team? A team that would play in the lower leagues. I can’t see it but it would be great for the club.

Ultimately we need to make some ruthless calls in my opinion. There is enough money in the game to service a maximum of 14 full professional clubs and ‘all’ the TV money should be spread between those clubs only. Those 14 clubs would then obliged to run reserve teams and u19’s or u20’s teams.

That would ultimately mean a number of traditional clubs (who were big clubs 80 years ago) would need to fend for themselves and at the very best be classed as semi professional I’d have thought but there isn’t enough money in the game over here to keep trying to please 20+ teams.
