For his stamp on Lee Mossop he is up before the RFL panel charged with a grade B offence. So that'll be the second time this year he will face a ban (first for his attack on George Williams) and on both occasions Wigan didn't even receive a penalty.

Re: Ashton Sims - stamp : Mon Aug 24, 2015 5:58 pm
So he was put on report, thought so?

Seems all wrong to me; if an offence is serious enough to merit being put on report, then surely at least a penalty should automatically be awarded.

I don't see the point of 'on report', anyway. Am I not right in thinking that even if an incident isn't placed on report (missed by the officials, say), it doesn't preclude the judiciary from looking at it afterwards. So why bother? Seems to me it's a cop-out for referees. If they think it's that bad, they should show a card, and give some benefit to the wronged side, not their competitors.

Yes, putting on report is merely window dressing.

Just seen a foul play decision, in a French Rugby Union match, referred to the video ref. It did not take as much time as reviewing a score. Sorted out on the spot with the infringing player dealt with. If Sims had got 10mins in the sin bin in the first instance I would have been a lot happier.

Yup he should have been shown a yellow in the game for that stamp.

However a I think in this incident ref n linesman.did not see it and it was the video ref that got message up about the stamp so putting it on report was only option

The idea is that they can't penalise something they haven't seen. You're correct about all incidents being reviewed anyway though, on report is more so the crowd are aware and to ensure the reviewers don't miss it

Fair enough on the 'ref didn't see it' in this case, but on reports are so frequent that if all three officials really didn't see anything on every occasion...

Call me cynical, but....

The mesage therefore came from the VR's and they saw everything.
The VR's should be able to advise onfield officials and measure to be taken.
Hicks should have asked their advice and gone off it.

Noticed that Hicks did our game at Wire then the Bradford/Salford game on Sunday.
Well done to him for that. I thought he had his best game I've seen in the game at Wire.

Well, too much on report and not enough cards is a perennial complaint of mine (and others), but I agree Hicks had a decent game in general on Friday.

I still say that if it's serious enough to go on report, then a pen should automatically be awarded, though.

Sims has been given a one match ban for the offence.
