Gildart was physically hard for HKR to handle yesterday with it taking a few defenders to get him down each time he touched the ball. That obviously means not much in terms of translating that in to the first team but I believe he's got the footwork, pace and bottle to cause some problems.

Going in to next season I certainly wouldn't like to think he was our only back up at centre but I would like to see him get a few games. I think the potential way to get him in is probably from the wing just to give him a taste of the action.

He looks a special talent.

Agree with that.

FWIW I don't think attack is his problem area. You only need to look at Sam to see that size doesn't if you have the ability to make defenders miss.

The problem lies with stopping much bigger guys in defence. He'll be front line defence against some big opposition centres and some even bigger 2nd rows.

Yes, there are. I trust Gildart will get a few games at least next season, otherwise there was no point in giving him a contract. The lad has talent, and, to some extent, defensive security is something that can be taught as his career progresses.

5 - 10 games next season would probably be about right for him. He and Toby King have been the best centre products from academy rugby since Percival.

Bateman is doing a better job at centre than Joel did and it at least gives us a route to keep Joel, Faz and Bateman on for 80 mins, but I still wouldn't have sent our only experienced cover out on loan.

Our only experienced centre who hasn't played a competitive game in something like 12 months? That would be one hell of a risk in games to come.

For the next few games we need players who are fully match fit and up to speed - sadly with the lack of reserve grade games there is no way any player returning from injury can build up match fitness these days.

We could always look down under for an immediate replacement with the cap space we apparently have. What's the point of holding some money back if not?
