Get the feeling he's only doing it to get onside with us Rugby lot in case any of us kick up a stink about him having his own statue at the stadium, though he could just be being nice and my cynical brain is at it again

Possibly he's just being nice, but you're right to be cynical. For example, I'm wondering why this gesture of his needed to be so public.

Possibly because they had only raised a third of their goal, so it reminds people who had not donated yet, like me.
If I was going to be cynical, I might see it as a bit of rehab after his recent bad press...

Slightly off topic but Whelan related.

Heard there has been a 'little disagreement" between the club and the Stadium Company over the last few weeks. On the day of the Salford game Wigan officials were stunned to find that a Latics Crest imprinted into the newly laid turf at the tunnel edge leading out onto the pitch.

As the game was on SKY arrangements were quickly made to cover the crest up with a rubber mat.
I heard a discussions followed as to why:

1) The club had not been informed of such crest.
2) No crest of their own was arranged to go along side.


Whether anything came of this not heard anything since. Seems rather petty though.

The club new about the crest 4/5 weeks ago, approx2/3 weeks before Salford game.
It's not imprinted into the turf just the newly laid Astor turf.

The rest is spot on, a lot of people weren't happy.
