Thanks again, guys. It's not my preference to go straight to the DW; ideally I'd like to drive to hotel, drop off the car, quick wash and brush up, and stroll into town, swift pint on way to the ground...
If I'm on my bike, that applies even more so; change out of leathers etc.
Either way, as Eddie would say, it's an early start.
Why get off at Orrell junction 24 and straight down Warrington Road to the stadium.
I don't get what you mean. J24 is St Helens. Assuming you mean J25 then from plenty of experience it's a lot worse than J26 (Orrell) even with roadworks. Warrington Road can be a nightmare.

Unless there's another way I don't know about.
yes I did mean 25 typo I live on Warrington Road near the Ben Jonson I go down Fulbeck ave and then on to Poolstock lane then Swan Meadow road there a bit of traffic when you get to Pottery Road but as Saints fans are coming off the motorway at jct 25 I can see your problem on Warrington Road there is road works on Warrington rd but suspended at peak times. Alternative is go up to Standish junction but don't follow the signs for the DW when you get to the t junction DW signs are telling you to go left go right until you come to a mini island about 1 1/2 miles and this takes you through Standish lower ground to the stadium.
Not going anywhere near the M6 on Friday / Monday . Train Edinburgh - Wigan up and down on Friday morning / night . Journey time 2:48 each way .
Anyone thinking about coming down Friday and back Saturday on the train should be aware that there a no trains running north of Carlisle on Saturday . Bus replacement service turning a 2:48 journey into a 5:00 plus one . Same reason is going to make the journey to Salford on Monday a nightmare one .
Well, a funny thing happened to me on t way to t match today...
A dismal failure to keep it shiny side up on a busy and greasy motorway , and I was sliding in my booty for about 100 m up the fast lane of t M6; dont try this at home, kids.
Luckily I sprang to my feet, and t bike was pushed to t hard shoulder. Broken clip-on, so not rideable, but hopefully its only cosmetic damage and fixable. Anyway, bike was recovered to Stoke, pick-up guy dropped off at Stoke station, and by some miracle I still made it to t DW for kick off. Just back at hotel for a soak in t bath, aching a bit now, out for a few beers later and get t train back home tomorrow.
