Haha yeah pretty sure you would have lost at the DW had it not been for Silverwood. Good old selective memories over in Wigan.

The plaudits keep coming in for us. And yes, you hate it. Whether you admit it or not.

PS Briscoe was class before he got injured and class since he came back. Not one of your backline would get in ours. And you hate that too.

I like Briscoe but no way I'd have him ahead of Burgess, don't think I'd prefer him to Manfredi either to be honest over the full season.

Oh you mean the McGuire try that was RIGHTLY chalked off due to an obstruction? Not really selective, more justified. None of our back line would get in Leeds. Pah. Bloody hell yeah you are a decent side but you are not the Australian national side jeeeeysus.

Scoring 30 odd tries a season does not automatically make you a class winger. Ryan Hall has been way down the try scoring charts for the last few years now but its simply down to the way we play. It's not all about getting the ball to Ryan Hall at Leeds which with his talents it would be in most other sides. When he first broke on to the scene, with Senior inside of him (a wingers dream), he scored at a rate of more than a try a game but nobody in their right mind would argue Hall isn't a much better player now and been one of the best in the World for a while. Put him in a big game situation he produces time and again where others would fail.Yes, Wingers are there for scoring tries but they need to bring more to the table, and in this day and age the less glamorous things like how a player kick returns and holds up under the high/cross field kick is more important, and Briscoe and Hall are generally superb at this.

A far more polite way of saying what I was trying to say. Good post.

Also, at the risk of stating the obvious, this business of outside backs like Hall carrying the ball out of defence; it's hardly some revolutionary new tactics that the Rhinos have just stumbled on; most clubs do it, both in SL and in the NRL. So it hardly sets Leeds apart from the pack.

It doesn't but Hall and Briscoe are very good at it and with having Hardaker at FB who is also good at this it must be a nightmare to plan against.

I'm not here trolling btw, both Leeds and Wigan are blessed right now with wingers and Burgess,Hall,Briscoe and very soon Manfredi wouldn't look out of place in any team in the world imo which obviously bodes well for England, its a nice problem for the coach to have.

Re: mr t briscoe : Tue Sep 01, 2015 1:55 pm
Being deadly serious here Biff I really wouldn't swap Burgess and Manfredi for Hall and Briscoe. Hall for me has been brilliant but his pace these days in non existent. I agree that his defence is invaluable and is probably the best in the comp for it as a winger but he is only dangerous 4 or 5 yards out these days, a bit like Joel Monaghan. Briscoe is decent enough, I think he was better at Hull though. He is prone to the odd break but i don't think he does it any better than Burgess or Manfredi who can both make breaks, both fast, both strong and can both defend.

I really wouldn't swap them, and that isn't being blinkered. If there were some players i would have out of the leeds squad the 2 wingers wouldn't be there. It would be Hardaker, Watkins, Cuthbertson, Garbutt and S.Ward

Hall never really had serious pace to be honest if comparing him with most speedsters, his game is, and always has been more power based and that has increased down the years to the point now where he is like an extra forward. The work he does getting us away from our own line at times and giving the forwards a breather is invalubale. Its dirty work and not very pretty on the eye so will probably go unnoticed for the majority of the time but it is a big facet of the way we play.
All a matter of opinions anyway Cherry, like i say i wouldn't swap our 2 either but do appreciate that Manfredi and Burgess are top class in their own right.
