Our best paid player does lead us round. George is not that type of player hence why we need a good 7. No coincidence his best game in some time, notwithstanding injury, was with Tommy at 7.

That said, I’m still frustrated by the article but Wane has come out and said he did it some time ago. Hopefully the recent announcements can get his head screwed on as Lam indicated on Golden Point.

Or, was he trying to put himself in the shop window following yesterdays article, Coincidence?

If he was Id still be amazed if anyone was particularly impressed. Yes a few nice moments including the kick for Marshall and a good cut out pass to Sarginson but there were several poor decisions which led to knockons and penalties instead of further tries.

Trust me I agree regarding positivity, I’m constantly accused of being a “happy clapper” and I’m very rarely negative about the club or players.

But I think that’s what’s annoyed me more. I have defended Williams on this forum and in person on countless occasions regarding performance etc. Then the day after we announce two fantastic coaches who could take his game to the next level, this article appears.

Like I said, if he were to play out the rest of his contract and go in the same way as Bateman has I would have no issues. But coming out with an article like this is bad on his (and presumably his agents) part.

It absolutely stinks and is representative of a poor attitude that has become more and more apparent. The sooner we get rid the better.

If this new era that's on the verge of starting doesn't make George realise that it's not just about him, then nothing will.

I wouldn't care, but the guy really has yet to prove himself.

Last night, he showed glimpses of what he can do in the first half, and in the second just took a back seat, even when Cas were battling their way back into it and our attack had hit the buffers. What was that about? Is that really the kind of halfback that you want at the heart of your team?

At present, GW is the epitome of a badly advised youngster.

His comments to me, seem to be from a guy whose gone into business for himself.

With two and a half months left of the season, he's potentially thrown a massive spanner in the works when it comes to planning etc. He's 12 months into a new deal and it's not a far stretch of the imagination to think he's been factored into the clubs short to medium term plans. Add in his marque status and you've got a situation where the clubs been thrown into flux. We've not considered or moved for guys like Blake Austin or Tuimoala Lolohe because we've already tied a 6 down to a marquee four year deal.

I'd personally like to see one of two things happen - one of which i'd deem reasonable / fair and the other is a bit out there...

1 - We hold George to his contract for at least 12/24 months. As mentioned above he's recently signed up and, as such, we're well in our rights to exercise a degree of control over the situation. The good of the club comes before the wishes or immediate needs of one player.

2 - We sell Williams for a big transfer fee and then use that to buy Sam back from Catalan, offering him a marque deal in the process. I think this season has proven he's our best player and i'd love to see a Lam and Sam combo on the pitch along with a Sam linking up with Lam & Edwards also.

No thanks to either, I know Sam is probably your favourite player but he is gone, deal with it, He's vexed on the club twce now, he can never come back, as for Williams, if he needs another player to make him play good then he isn't Wigan standard, Get rid of now and bring in somebody that wants to play for the club

It's not about favourite players (or it shouldn't be to anyone over the age of 12) - it's instead about what's best for the team. Do we, at this late stage, go to the NRL and potentially panic buy, pay over the odds or get someone with a chequered past? Most contracts have been sorted by this time of the year btw.

Keeping Williams isn't the best option either, but being a bit tougher over holding people to contracts won't be a bad thing for the club. Letting someone go just over 12 months into a new deal is a real low and a complete different scenario to someone leaving with 12 months remaining.

Williams played his first game in 2 months last night and was the best player on the field in that first half. We look a completely different side when he’s in the 13. He needs to get match fit and sharpen his timing a bit but for 40 minutes he was very good.
2nd half was like Catalan all over again. Forwards were beaten, lost ball, penalties and Sam Tomkins won us that game,
I’m a fan of GW but I’m the first to say he needs to find some good form and consistency. If we keep hold of him (I hope we do) I’d be very confident that with the coaching of Lam & Edwards in a more flamboyant style of rugby, he’d be devastating.
