You can only think that the figures on offer from Catalans are astronomical because he’s not going there expecting any success surely.

The NRL move I got but not this. It’s the sort of move you’d have expected him to make at 31/32 to get one last good deal.

This time, I’d suggest most fans would have thought it reasonable for ST to show some loyalty to the club that paid him a fortune for 2 year whilst supporting him through his injuries. That does not sound like the Sam Tomkins that I’ve been watching for 10 years. He’s always come across as a winner and a real competitor so that’s why this move doesn’t sit well with many fans. Im looking forward to learning the reasons behind the move for sure and I’ll save my judgement until then.

I still don’t get it at even 31/32. He has everything at Wigan; bloody good salary, a realistic and consistent chance of winning trophies as well as an England re-call. I could still see him starting in our team in 5/6 years time, albeit at HB rather than FB.

He could have been a legend here at Wigan, adored by the masses and spoke about like Radlinski but it’s looking like he’ll just be one of those good players we had once upon a time. His name forgotten and put into categories such as Ryan Hoffman or Trent Barrett albeit he spent longer playing for us.

Is it a lack of ambition? Pure greed? A fall out? Being forced to play elsewhere? I don’t really think any of them make real sense.

We’ve also got to consider that he might even be staying yet and one of/both of Bateman/Gildart leave. That creates a whole new debate and argument.

I’d be really really interested in what the truth is and the reasons behind him leaving, should he do so.

They are reviewing the structure of SL and I don't think Catalans will be relegated.
Reckon we'll go back to 14 SL with Catalans staying and two being promoted.
They are not a poor squad and need a quality coach. McNamara is useless and no one can understand why he got the job.

If Sam does go to Catalan I doubt we’ll ever know the reason why.

If I was to guess I’d take a punt at Wigan wanting to keep him but on a significantly reduced salary and Catalan offering him a pay rise (combined with the chance to live in the south of France for a few years). The difference between the salary’ offered being enough to override the desire to win trophies (of which there is a greater chance but no degree of certainty at Wigan)

All supposition of course.

He was a disaster at Bradford, and for England, and now showing just as disastrously at Catalans.
