I agree, however, at the risk of sounding bitter - Burrell is past it, and isn't that great a signing IMO. He may end up being a very good Super League player (that's not what I'm arguing). But us signing Burrell from Union isn't turning their heads and making people think "wow, Rugby League are going big and taking our best players". Instead they're thinking "ah, he's a bit past it and now he's trying Rugby League again to cash in".
It would have to be someone like an Owen Farrell to create that type of reaction.
Fully agree but it’s a starting point isn’t it and at this stage the Farrell’s, Ford’s and so on are unrealistic. Whilst it may not make people sit up and think ‘wow’ it does get some press attention that the game otherwise wouldn’t have got.
Ultimately it’s better then us sitting on our hands doing nothing. I’m liking Wires pro active approach to raising their profile and the games. We will get some attention when Edwards takes over but I really do hope Lenagan has a plan to try and emulate a bit of what Wire are doing on the playing front. It’s his money and his choice and if he wants to pull back on spending because our crowds are down then fair enough but coaches alone won’t see people come back. We had nearly 22,000 in the ground on Sunday to see a big game and a raft of big game players. Make people interested and get them excited and they will come.
