I think you’ve summed it up pretty well there to be honest. IIRC his wages don’t count on the cap due to the length of service to Wigan? I’m not sure if that’s entirely true so feel free to correct me if not but let’s say that that is the case; there’s not much to lose keeping him on but potentially a lot to lose from ‘pushing’ his retirement

Fully agree. You're a long time retired, if he feels like he still has it in him then the benefits massively outweigh the negatives, both financially and as a player on the pitch.

Unless Lockers totally falls to bits then he decides when he’s had enough for me. We probably get about 20 games a season out of him including most of the big ones and I’d rather have that then nothing at this stage.

Especially given that he is on a contract that rewards appearances. Lockers could have gone elsewhere for more money but stuck with his home town club. Plenty on here have rightly criticised players for failing toe out their contract, its now time for the club and supporters to show some loyalty to Lockers.

Well said! Loyalty seems to be a thing of the past to some people on here with short memories. How many times has Lockers been the difference between us winning tight games and us losing? If he thinks he is able to go round for another season or two then that's fine by me - he will be the first to know when he is not contributing.

After his performances this season I thought I’d be happy with us signing Drinkwater. But now that Hastings is available I think I’d be disappointed in Drinkwater. Especially as it would seem that Catalans are letting him go for free in favour of paying a fee for Matty Smith.

Hastings is probably the better more exiting player with a higher ceiling but Drinkwater is stylistically a better fit for us imo and there is less chance he will bog off after 1 good season. I also worry that the majority of Hastings appearances have been against lesser teams.
