I went to this last year and was really impressed with our youngsters but couldn't make it tonight. My lad went and said the half backs were good but didn't know who they were (Williams and Hampshire?)
Stand out players for me were Williams, Hampshire, Leatherbarrow, Crosby and Burgess. Thornley wasn't too bad either and put in the biggest tackle of the night.
If I was to pick one player it would probably be Crosby. He's the perfect prop forward for 9's; quick, runs hard, defends well and has very good hands.
I went myself tonight and met Rouges in the pub prior to the match and it stands out the enthusiasm he has for the junior grades,he seems to go to all the junior matches home and away. The stand out performers for me were George Williams,Ryan Hampshire and George Burgess,The reason I have mentioned all backs is because I dont really know any of the forwards. Williams I think he spent most of his time in the centre but you could see the brains and handling skills he had. Hampshire did a lot of the organising and every time a break was made he finished it off,he reminded me of a young Danny Maguire with his backing up(oh dear what have I said) Burgess,I have not seen anybody as quick as him for a long time,he reminded me of Stuart Wright when he first came to Wigan.Very tall with a very long stride which made it look so easy, nobody could live with him.. Out of the opposistion Ryes Evans of the Wire (I think thats his name) showed what a class player he is,but Ritchie Myler was puffing and blowing in every match for them. He must have been using these matches to regain fitness, off that performance he as a long way to go. Cumberland gave Wigan the hardest game, but in that match Wigan seemed to keep turning the ball inside and getting bogged down. Cumberland also had a very quick winger,he could really motor. As for the Saints least said the better, they where really bad.
