Yeah, I bet both clubs wish they had your coach.

For the cerebrally challenged, that'll be the one you won't have for much longer.

As to Bateman having a word with the ref that was just good captaincy in my view. Others have been given the captains armband recently and have not said boo to a goose but Bateman showed so real leadership qualities there by having a word.

Unlike some players who badger the ref for 80 minutes (Brough isn't exactly a shrinking violet when to comes to that) Bateman wasn't doing that but a captain not willing to let the rubbish continue without a word to the ref is a welcome sign. He's already a top player and if he can take on the captaincy and lead like that then the sky is the limit for him.

Completely agree (Don't fall off your chair  )
I remarked 5 mins before half time that he'd lost a bit of control in the game
He'd let 2 very poor PTB's go early on 1 for each team and it got a bit manic from there.
His policing of the offside was average (But considerably better than Bentham IIRC the week before against Cas which was awful) when it differed PTB to PTB from 7/8 mtrs to 12/13!

Second half there was 1 PTB though where Cobb took Hudds back it must have been nearly 18mtrs!
Wigan were tackled say 2 yards over the Hudds 20yard line (approx. 18mtrs out) and he took Hudds back to about 2 yards from their try line!!!
It was ridiculous (Nothing happened from it BTW for all the conspiracy theorists!)

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Instead of moaning, shouldn't Anderson be doing something about his team being the second highest penalised team in Superleague and also having the most players sin-binned?

Lost a lot of credibility for me last night did Anderson. Why not comment on how well his team played rather that blatantly insinuating that we cheated (we are Wigan, we always cheat obviously, the cup draw is a fix too) and applaud the fans that turned up to see a spirited and much improved side. I have never liked Anderson, McDermott, Cunningham and sometimes Wane for blaming the ref. Ok if you have a bad decision you still have 79 minutes to rectify it. Wane at least, he is outspoken but rarely blames a ref, he blames the team or himself. Anderson let himself down last night. Pressure starting to show i think. Huddersfield were very niggly and deserved the penalties against them, every game is the same, swings and roundabouts. How big is the character in the team to overcome it? -9 i reckon, McGilvarry, Cudjoe, Brough and Wardle are the senior players who got on with their jobs. Man up Anderson, you got beat in a good game by a better side.

I suspect he can feel the dole queue sneaking up behind him.

No way should that team be bottom of the table.

I the capt is allowed to talk to the ref and the ref takes the feedback and improves his referring of the game then is there a problem (would it suggest a the other way? If the result ends up in a bias then there's a problem.

The ref had a good 15mins to consider and discuss with the linesmen in a quick half time review.

I guess Anderson never passes a message via the captain ever? Maybe he should, see if he can get Hudds let off for continual infringements that have them topping the naughty boys club.

The thing that annoys me about all of this is sky. A captain has always had the right to talk and ask questions to a ref as long as he does it appropriately. If Bateman walked up to the ref and said we're not happy with the ruck speed, sort it out or else then we'd have an issue. Obviously i wasn't party to the conversation but in sure it didn't go like that.

The issue I have is sky have succeeded in creating controversy and a story where one shouldn't exist. They insinuated that the ref gave penalties purely because of whatever Bateman said. I'd prefer to look at the evidence. 3 penalties were for high tackles, that certainly doesn't have anything to do with ruck speed. One to each team for off side is consistent with the first half. One for holding down after a break which was a no brainer sin bin too. That leaves 2, one was on Sarginson who was pushed back down whilst trying to get up which is always given as a penalty by every ref so that leaves 1 penalty that I can't remember so in the interest of balance let's pretend Bateman influenced the ref to give 1 penalty.

Spot on, Trainman. All teams try to get away with what they can, and Wigan are no angels in that respect, but it did strike me during the game that Hudd were particularly blatant. They was one in the first few mins on the right wing, on Gells maybe (?) that I couldn't believe wasn't penalised. And the Giants can have no complaints about their yellow cards.

Not quite spot on IMO. The problem isn't Sky in general but Eddie Hemmings in particular. Wigan hater par excellence which I know from personal experience.
