A good team with a good bench.
They should beat PNG.

I’m pleased Widdop is at full back. Lomax was poor against Australia and it seems as though he is not fit either.

The team looks to have a better balance though I’d still rather play a centre rather than a second row in the centres.

Roby and Percival should be in the 13 for me. Bateman ahead of Whitehead who hasn't done much to earn his place. Glad to see Burgess back.

I think PNG will compete hard and should be full of confidence. Might be worth a punt with 14 points start on the handicap.

I’m still not sure what Kevin Brown brings to the party. It’s not hard to look decent against a very poor France and I’d like to have seen Williams given a chance in the halves with Gale. He’s had brief stints at 9 and understandably not shone but I feel a bit sorry for him. Hopefully knowing he’s second fiddle to Brown will kick him up the jacksy enough to improve next season.
Not a bad squad though and we should go into the semi final.

Hodgson over Roby is my only concern. He may be a good NRL player but his performances in an England shirt haven't been up to scratch.

Oddly enough the view on Hodgson isn't one shared by most Australian pundits. I think the one thing Hodgson does is attract attention from defenders as they know how dangerous he can be. What England need to do is somehow use that threat to get others into space.

I think Widdopp at full back is a good move as it gives him more space and the chance to choose where he enters plays. When he's first receiver he can be one of those players who looks great but doesn't actually deliver a lot in terms of try scoring passes. Brown did a good job against France IMO of creating a bit of space for Gale. In any event having a third option in attack looke better.

I'm not at all convinced by Bateman at centre, and would have gone with Percival who I thought at least looked like a proper centre against France.

Having said all that, whilst beating PNG isn't a gimme, I wouldn't be surprised if Bennett makes a couple of changes for Tonga assuming we win.

Williams has been awful this World Cup. He's established that he isn't international class, and on a marquee wage.

You think he’s had a reasonable opportunity? I don’t! He’s not a 9, simples!!

He played 15 mins against Lebanon in a spell where we hardly had any ball and about 40 mins against France when he was shifted between stand off, hooker and even centre! He's hardly had enough time to say if he's been good, bad or indifferent (certainly not in his own position).

To put it in to sensible context, he's the only half on tour who hasn't had a start (or even a full half of rugby) in the 6 or 7 shirt.
