Sorry, this is completely the wrong approach. What I would be doing is getting a Sports Marketing consultancy in, define a set of Measureables which they must meet with a milestone payment plan. This is all wrong, what will happen is that this poor guy/girl will have to start from scratch, defining a marketing startegy (3 months), by which time the season is almost over.

With a consultancy, they will have a standard methodlogy and IP, and can start to work on executing the marketing strategy pretty much straight away.

Spot on [and GF has mentioned this many times as well] this shows an awful lack of business acumen advertising this post as it is. Whoever takes this on has a minefield of responsibilities with a very limited opportunity for success.

If anyone is defining a marketing strategy in April 2011 it will be for the 2012 season (the marketing for which needs to begin in about 5 months' time). The marketing campaign for this season is either in place or it is not - it's too late for anyone (individual or consultancy) to do anything but tinker with 2011.

I'm in favour of getting someone in-house so long as it's a high quality appointment with a budget.* That person could still outsource to a consultancy. Outsourcing is fine just as long as an expert in-house draws up very precise requirements/specifications. Outsourcing without an expert in-house is plain crazy.

EDIT*: I would add that this doesn't look like it will be anything like a high quality appointment with a budget.

This is surely the biggest decision the Quins will make this year. If we don't get the marketing right it will never work.

18-20k Being advertised on throught sports recruitment sites, not worth the hassle.

You aren't going to get anyone of quality or experience for that money, I feel for the successful applicant as they are on a hiding to nothing with the support they will be reciving.

15k a month is what would attract the right calibre of applicant but 18-20k a year....in London
