'initial months loan' doesnt sound like season long to me.

So why not just say- “he’s joined on a months loan” Why did the club mention season long at all? You don’t think that’s at all odd?
Why not say in a months time, it’s going well he’s staying on.
He’s not even fit to play so it’s probably all about cap.

So perhaps if the giants were quicker off the mark the truth would be clearer.

The fact is he hasn't left the club therefore your subject was (and still is) misleading.

No he hasn't left the club. He's been loaned to another club. He is still part of our club.
