For all my cynicism, I think this is a good idea.

Looking at the attendances this season we are -as expected- down on last year.
Interestingly we have a better attendance figure than both Wakey and Widnes- yet noone has a go at them for their crowds!!!!

The proposals make sense, if and when we "grow" the crowds the seating areas can be expanded.

Big yes from me. As others, cover the cordoned off areas with proper banners. Several nrl clubs cover swathes of empty seats in decent looking banners, it does make a difference visually. Although I've struggled to get to loads of games this season, when I do go, I'm at the back of the Brit, and I'd have no issue being moved down a few rows.

Overall approach of compacting crowds is definitely worth trying.

DON'T DIE WITH THE MUSIC IN YOU

Re: Crowd compacting : Thu Sep 29, 2016 10:08 pm
Think this is a must to build atmosphere but would prefer to compress to middle on both sides and close home section behind goals as too few there anyway.
Don't agree with moving away fans - personally hate going away when located anywhere near opposing fans and even worse when mixed side on. Too many idiots from most clubs.
Our support does seem to have developed a culture of spreading out across the available area at most away games and of course this is most noticeable at Magic.
Always feels a better atmosphere when crowd is compressed so agree it should be tried.

A bit off topic and will probably get slated for this but do think that as much as I admire the singers at the back so to speak as they do defo do a good job to lead the chants etc. .. and build support. Of course here is the but - we have a large section of our fans who dis-associate from them. Reasons I feel being that they perhaps do not fully realise the responsibility they have as "cheer leaders". Suggest not singing other teams songs back at them for instance - sing our own. We don't all hate Leeds, we are not the Giants marching in, and Wire is not Wan##ey. No one has a shed as big as that, and we mostly respect all RL players however much they play well or not against us. Just saying but for this compressed support to work I think it important that all our fans engage together. To be clear I repeat again that I appreciate most that the singers do - and sometimes can be very funny - TV Tony and we came on the train (our taxi broke down) for instance. With that comes a big responsibility though. I love to sing and chant for the Giants but will not engage in anything but our own songs. Many who sit near me at home games I am sure feel the same and do join in with the Giants or Fartown chants but nothing else.
Bit of a rant - sorry
One other suggestion for the club - please stop the music being played when tries are scored. All it does is drown out the singers, put timing of any crowd chants out of sync etc... Not against music as such but if must be played then play something that the fans can sing along to in unison not something to compete against. Why not try no music for a home game trys for a game. Fans manage better at away games with celebration chants with no music so why not at home too? Oh yes one last thing - as the players enter and that Liquidator song is playing we should be chanting GIANTS (like the Chelsea chant) - that would get the atmosphere going.

the Claret And Gold Machine is ready to roll

sunday September 1st 2013, when a dream became a reality!!

Re: Crowd compacting : Fri Sep 30, 2016 6:13 am
Agree very much with Devonian, the music is awful, yes I know some people like it, but I prefer to let the crowd create the noise, after we score a try it's a competition between the crowds chants and music.
I don't particularly like the liquidator song either and don't think it adds anything at all, not the clubs doing but I much prefer when teams ran out onto the field separately to either cheers or boos which notched the atmosphere up not this football style of walking out slowly together and lining up staring into space for 2 minutes.
And as a singer at the back, I can assure you that most of us are respectful towards the opposition although we do our best to put then off during a game.

The Liquidator song is rubbish. It doesn't mean anything.

The club needs to understand that the history is there and it's something that they can tap into and sell.

Here's the music to the original club song. I'm not too good at reading music, but I think I have an idea how it must go.

http://www.huddersfieldrlheritage.co.uk/Documents/Souvenir%20Brochures/Hurrah%20For%20The%20Claret%20&%20Gold.pdf

And here's the official song of the Adelaide Crows AFL team

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otd-dfhzaEw

My suggestion would be to record "Hurrah for the Claret and Gold" in the same style as the Crows song - and play that when they come out.

If you've listened to the Crows song, you're probably thinking that would be rubbish. But trust me, I've watched the Crows and it's brilliant.

And here's the legendary Harry Caray singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the seventh innings stretch at the Chicago Cubs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBYz2ftTvBo

This is the sort of quirk and tradition that gives people a feeling of connection to the club and the traditions of the club in a way that playing something generic like The Liquidator can't.

If you played Hurrah for the Claret and Gold at the start, then people's first impression would be to laugh and say it's crap. Within a few matches they'd be singing along. After a couple of seasons it would be such an integral part of the whole thing it would seem like it was always the way it was. That's how you build a connection up between the club and the people who support the club.

Didn't they try the "hurrah for the claret and gold" thing a few years back?
I remember something on here about it.

DON'T DIE WITH THE MUSIC IN YOU

Re: Crowd compacting : Fri Sep 30, 2016 5:37 pm
So OK we don't like the Liquidator - but agree in as much as if we are going to have music to welcome players to the field then it should be something that the fans can sing along to. Heard the Hurrah for the C&G before and whilst very old fashioned is a club song. Perhaps a remix?
Just another idea - at one time they played The Great Escape theme during a season I seem to recall. Now that is damn catchy and easy to chant to? Perhaps apt given our last season?

The Crows have the advantage that their song is a rousing tune

If we had a song using Halls of Montezuma as a basis isn't a bad plan
