You're obviously a caring responsible dog owner Jools. No problem exercising dogs in the right place. Being a part-time dog walker myself (my dad's mad Welsh sheepdog) if the dog's off its lead in a public place, i'll always get it under control and on the lead if approached by anyone whether they've got a dog, kids or whatever.
All dogs have the potential to harm whether they're rescue dogs not. Prevention rather than cure is my philosophy.

What led the owner not controlling it /

Why was it in a place it could be dangerous to someone ?

As for how it is policed it is like the way everything is policed in this country when it goes wrong you are subject to the law.


Cars kill over 2000 people every year. Should we ban them. How are they policed /

It was a fully trained war dog, in the charge of it's handler, and it just took it upon itself to attack someone, which all dogs are capable of doing.

Now tell me again about how we ensure , we get the right dogs with the right owner in the right place, Have you been through any process to ensure you are one of these people ? What you seem to be saying is that when a child ,or anyone else gets attacked we know then that it was the wrong Dog with the wrong owner in the wrong place . In Sunderland a child lost it's live finding that out.

Your comparison with Cars is just nonsense, Without a person a car is an inanimate object, You know as well as I do It's the people behind the wheel that are the problem, and they are supposed to have been tested to see if they are fit to drive one

I will never understand why people want to own Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, Alsatians etc as pets, they are all capable of killing, and do so from time to time, I have seen a man mauled by a war dog, so my views are more extreme than most. I know that Dogs fill a huge need in some peoples lives and do a very good job in many areas, but I would be very restrictive what breeds were even allowed in the county were it left to me.


Does being very restrictive not encompass certain dog breeds ?

And as I pointed out any dog in the wrong situation can be dangerous. I know all about the dog that killed the baby. I resigned from my job over the appalling way in the investigation was handled but cannot say anymore.

So there is no system then and I can go out and get a Pit bull tomorrow, having never owned a dog in my life, But fair enough, both you and jools and the majority of owners are no doubt responsible people who know how to take cars of your pets, just like Ormsby I expect .

Like I said once a dog has attacked a person I would shoot it, whatever breed it was, and I fancy any owner who is responsible would have it put down anyway. Untill we get such a law ( which will be never ) we will have to put up with people being savaged from time to time.

But if a dog attacked soneone it is normally pt down that is the law.

It is illegal to have certain breeds of dogs

It is an offence to not have dogs under control in public.

The law is not perfect often it is how it is implemented

Having a driving licence does not make you a good safe or responsible driver.

Same with a dog owner
