THE BIRTHPLACE OF RUGBY LEAGUE

Widnes at home next : Mon Mar 02, 2015 1:37 pm
So laying bottom of the league after 3 games we have a crunch game against Widnes next...

Widnes are strong at home but struggle away from their ipitch, fully expect us to win if we continue the improvement we have seem from game 1 to 3.

think the team that lined up v leeds deserves another shot as they were very close to getting the win which means robinson will have to miss out for wood again, though i think alot would rather see lunt dropped for robinson to get in?

Game is on friday night due to us having a short turnaround the following week. (thursday game)

Giants to be on the wrong side of the penalty count again?? first 3 games we have been but that just seems a given with us every week.

if we lose it will be anderson out calls.

if we win it will be all about the attendance.

We need to start this game well and keep our errors and penalty count as low as possible to get a win.

I'm usually all for a forward battle and a charge down the middle but I'd like us to spread the ball abit more and cover every part of the field. Widnes have the confidence and a team with confidence get the luck and bounce of the ball.. They'll be attacking out wide. I'd like to match them.

Wood to start for me... Lunt on the bench. I think Robbo would benefit greatly for another week off.

I'll say this every week but give Johnson a go!! A young pair of legs in the prop department. He'll surely bring more enthusiasm to the forwards and like last year when he played it seemed to give the other props a boost.
Crabtree or Koppy to have at least a game off.

As for Connor, keep him in for this game but no point in having an experienced full back in Grix if he's not going to be used. Connor is our future. Connor AND Grix are our present.

Hopefully a first win on the horizon and it'll kick start our season. COYG!

Why would you rest one of your senior props in a must win game when the forwards actually played well at Leeds?
I would possibly put Grix in for Connor but not sure. Otherwise unchanged except maybe Robinson for Lunt.

Are you related to Johnson? The problem is not the Props. Too many others like Cudjoe , Ferres and Lunt off form. Robinson needs a rest after two games, how many games will he play this season and beyond ? The next 3 games for the Club are crucial and the decisions that have been made regarding recruitment and contracts Questioned.

Not related to Johnson. Just expressing an opinion. I rate him. Nothing wrong with that is there? I don't think there's a problem in the props. I just don't see a problem with putting in a fresh pair of legs in the prop department and some fresh enthusiasm.
I'm not going to cry if he doesn't get in because I don't have a problem with anyone who puts the effort in.
The effort is there with all our players as far as I'm concerned.
As for Robbo, it'd be just an extended pick me up. Nothing to do with the physical side of playing but to do with his responsibilities off the pitch.
I'll try not discuss who I'd have in the team in future and post my opinion on a rugby league forum... Oh wait...

I agree the Props are not the problem, though when we use them is part of it. I think the same applies to both Ferres and Cudjoe. Ferres gets far too much ball, but not enough good ball, he tries to force things and opponents are watching him closely, Leroy on the other hand gets little ball let alone good ball as we always look to go to our left.

We showed more patience at Leeds and I felt that Jamie Ellis got a bit more ball, though Broughy still got the Lions share. Let the forwards take 2 or 3 hit ups and then show a bit of variety where we spread it and we will suddenly click and I believe perform as we all hope, as we know we can. Just keep giving the ball to Brough and Ferres with no other strategy than have them do some magic and we will finish in the bottom 4.

Can't blame Ferres for wanting the ball, but you can blame those responsible for moving us around the park for going to the well too often.

dont think dropping crabtree or kopczak for johnson would be any good.. both have been going ok so far, crabtree still does a mountain of work in his stints

cudjoe is being asked to do too much in defence, he is currently 2nd for the most tackles so far close behind top tackler hughes.

robinson is being rested more for personal reasons rather than it being injuries. the contracts that were given to grix and robbo though can be questioned i agree

One of our major problems at the moment is Brough's inability to not bite when being wound up, it's a huge flaw in his game which then becomes a weakness in our team and other coaches know this and are exploiting it !

If Danny can learn to ignore it and concentrate on the game more he will be more suited to controlling thr game like we know he can.
