Australia Crowned World Champions After the Battle of Brisbane

As dawn broke on another sunny Brisbane day, judgement day had finally arrived. After twenty-seven group and knockout games the best two sides in the World, Australia and England, would meet at the Suncorp Stadium to decide the World Champions.

The bookies and the pundits gave England slightly less chance than that of a ‘snowball in hell’ and with considerable disruption to the side through the loss of skipper Sean O’Loughlin and hooker Josh Hodgson, Wayne Bennett knew his side would need to play not only their game of the tournament, but that of their lives, to win the ultimate prize.

The question on everyone’s lips was whether England would roar like lions or go like lambs to the slaughter.

It was a massive effort from our lads and Australia knew it, the Aussie players had been stretch further than they ever expected and I think it was as tough as any State of Origin match. Roby and Hill were unbelievably awesome, but no-one let us down. They all gave absolutely everything, a real credit to England and hopefully signs of great things to come.

True, the Aussies were desperately hanging on at the end. Who would have predicted that performance and that it would be us battering their defence in the last quarter. Real shame we couldn't find that try and take it to sudden death.

Great display from England, unfortunately our week links probably cost us in the end. Bateman a good player for his club, but not an international class Centre, I never noticed him have a quality pass to Hall. Brown had a poor season with a very poor Warrington team, did not warrant getting selected in the squad in the first place, created nothing and poor in defence. Gale very disappointing. I could understand his selection for the squad on last seasons performances, but he created nothing in the World Cup and should have been dropped after the second game, only saw him have 1 good kick in the final the rest were kick and hope . If I were a SL coach I would know how to defend and attack Gale next season and it would show him up to be a very average half-back .

yeh we just dont have the half backs for that execution

maybe oloughlin and hodgson playing could have got us over the line but they both got injured

im still abit miffed sam tomkins didnt get selected for full back after hardaker wasnt going to play... he has that x factor.

anyway dont want to be too down hearted as im still proud of them

Let`s hope now the NRL pundits stop crowing about how superior the NRL is as they just scraped home, and as a couple of Aussies said it was the hardest game they played in.
