I've watched Scruntons 'none play the Ball' and I'm not sure the Ref could see the incident due to our players being in the way? What is wrong though is, Video Ref Childs should have said; Lunt has grounded the Ball ok however, Scrunton has not played the Ball correctly so you may want to rule the try out or, cause a f@@@ing RUMPUS (don't tell me the Video Ref can't advise, we see Refs all the time taking info from their earpiece )
Older fans may recall a second round CC tie at Craven Park in 1982 when Rovers, clinging onto a slender one point lead were penalised by the Referee on their 30 yard line for not playing the ball correctly? up stepped 'the Master' Woody and plonked the goal over giving us a one point victory I think the unfortunate Rovers player was Steve Crookes? Rovers too, were defending Cup Holders! No Video Refs in those days though
If the rules about playing the ball properly were enforced fully, then maybe that would slow the play the ball enough naturally without us having to watch a wrestling match every tackle!
It was sloppy all round. Rovers could easily of been given a penalty for Leigh players been offside and all over the man trying to play it as well so could go either way.

was at the game and your cock on there bud, unbelievable as in them days it was hardly penalised, crooksie is an old pal of mine and he was distraught , can you remember the ref. think it was Ronnie Campbell who detested us in them days as we used to give him some shissum ,,watched scrutons in slow motion a few times he did make a leg motion and the ball came out faster than normal , see that every week and could have gone the other way you could nit pick a few calls either way in every game, still think leigh will be ok , all still to play for

At the ground it looked like a shambles...
However, having viewed it over and over, Scruton was trying for a quick PTB, and so you could argue it was a penalty for not releasing.
As you say, either way, another ref could have seen it differently.

True - but therein lies a major problem, when referees 'interpret' situations differently.
Also, who's to say what might have happened in that five final minutes, if he had disallowed the try? We may have gone downfield, on the back of that penalty, and scored the clincher. Equally, they may have stepped up their attack, and scored anyway. Five minutes is a very long time, towards the end of a tiring game!

Not to mention, we still had chances to win the game after Lunt's second try. Just weren't good enough to take them.
