Well I don't really know the true ins and outs but from what I can gather -
A new stadia was planned to be built on the outskirts of Wakey by the developer Yorkcourt, it included some retail and warehousing, planning permission was granted for the retail and warehousing on the condition the developer also built the new stadium.
Meanwhile belle vue was put up for sale by the previous owners (not Wakey), Wakey were seriously considering buying the ground but were persuaded not to bid for it with the view that their new stadium was about to be built, belle vue was then bought by 88M for an undisclosed fee on the condition Wakey got a new lease to remain till the new ground was built.
So Yorkcourt start the warehousing build, completed it, then cease trading I think, I dunno, anyway they didn't build the stadium.
So that's where we're at.
Yorkcourt build their warehouse and don't have to fulfill the conditions laid down in the planning consent.
88M get some land (belle vue) to develop when wakey leave, at I presume a knockdown price since there didn't appear to be any other bidders.
I think Wakey council are up to their nuts in all these shenanigans too but the bottom line is, Wakey get zip
Like I said, I don't pretend to know the ins and outs, there may be some inaccuracies but generally the whole thing stinks like a hot day on Grimsby docks, only time will tell if Wakey have any recourse, as it stands, Belle Vue is not a viable project going forward, if they owned it....that would be different, but they don't.
