Best Rugby League player I've had the privilege to watch. He could and probably should have gone elsewhere to win the honours his natural talent deserved but he was so loyal to Leigh. Such a shame he never made it to Wembley. What a nice bloke too.

Naturally gifted all-round rugby league player. Made it all look so simple. Kicked goals for fun too!

King John,without doubt the BEST all round player I have ever seen and you can include Ellery Hanley in that ,John was so gifted ,a true Gentleman to boot and a Butts Bridger, deserves a Statue.

As a Fax fan I can only say how much I enjoyed watching him, even if he was scoring against us. He just seemed to glide over the grass, absolute class.

I've seen 10 minutes of an old Warrington game that John was involved in. Didn't see much of him, but what I did see confirmed all the stories I heard. Woody toyed with his opponent and stood them up at will, amazing stuff. Woody's physical abilities put Legolas to shame!

The best player I've ever seen in a Leigh shirt too. Total class, and it all seemed so effortless. For such a gifted attacking player, Woody also did more than his fair share of tackling. As for kicking goals - the touch judges had to be fast, in his day, to get behind the posts, before he kicked the ball!
