I know your username is REFFY, but your 'sticking up for officials' is rather predictable and boring. Why don't you type stuff like a Leigh fan, rather than local official Phil Bentham.
Your right Terry, But maybe he isn't a Leigh fan really, Just a fan of referees.
Best team will win on Sunday irrespective of the referee.
This criticism of Childs goes back to our Challenge Cup defeat to Catalan about 3 seasons ago.
I watched the game again on Centurion TV after that game and posted at the time after watching it again I thought he got the crucial decisions right despite not thinking so in real time.
Leigh will win on Sunday if they play better than Sheffield.

Refs don't win games players do.
Hello Frank.
My criticism of Mr Child is that he can get a decision right, but he's not consistent, then he's surrounded by players, then the crowd are booing, then he loses the plot and makes guess decisions giving penalties hoping he can regain his credibility, but by then he's given penalty after penalty, the games gone sour and everyone get's frustrated with the whole outcome of the game. Like I said in an earlier post, Iv'e yet to see him have a good game. For me, I think he needs to take a leaf out of Ben Thaler's book.

I am a Leigh fan and have been for donkey's ages, I have also been a referee. I can see faults in Leigh performances and faults in referees' performances. The average Leigh fan only sees faults in referees' performances and uses them as an excuse.
There are a few who do see the odd fault by their team but if they voice their opinion they are shouted down and ridiculed by the majority wearing cherry & white glasses.
This phenomenon is not unique to Leigh fans.
Edit I am not averse to venting my ire at a referee if i think he is wrong but I do that to Leigh players as well.

When does this happen ? Defeats only ? Did this happen at Leeds & Doncaster last season ? Did this happen at Warrington away in the challenge cup.....NO ! When your team is on 'the back foot' so to speak, and it appears that the Ref is being unfair, is this an adverse reaction ? NO. Like 'high tackles' on Liam kay, where the Ref ignores it. So you are HAPPY with every decision made by an official, because you have reffed a few amatuer/kids games. Get A Grip !!!! Ref's aren't biased, they have 'off days' like anyone else in their job, shame is the RFL do not make them accountable.
"So you are HAPPY with every decision made by an official,"
If you read my post properly you will note that I didn't say anything like that. I accept that they do make mistakes, some fans won't accept that sometimes it is player error that lost the game not referee error.
I hope Child doesn't affect the result, it would be difficult given the opposition, but I bet he makes less errors than the players.
How would you make a ref accountable, demote him so you get a less experienced official. The replacement would make mistakes as well, where would it stop? Coaches doing half a match each.

There's a thought!
But then look how biased Aston, Lowes, Chester, Betts, Sheens, Smith, and Marshall would be. No, there's only one who would be totally unbiased, in these Qualifiers!

Aye, the reason we have lost the first three games is the referees' abysmal performances, nowt to do with poor tactics, poor discipline, poor decision making, players' poor form etc. If the referees gave us a fair crack we would have six points instead of zilch.
I'm not suggesting we lost our first three games because of the Referees! I'm making an observation on James Childs as a Referee! Every game he takes involving Leigh he is constantly talking to and warning Leigh players, far more than he does the opposition! We have acquired a reputation for ill discipline and I think some Referees are riding on the back of that? yes we commit foul play however, has any of our foul play led to an opponent being seriously injured or, hospitalised? rarely i'll bet! Some of our players are a target for opposition teams, none more so than Sam Barlow! Sam came to Leigh with a reputation for foul play yet, it is he who gets targeted and has sometimes finished up in Hospital! Gregg McNally too seems to be targeted and hehas had his fair share of Hospital Linen! In the Wakey game, Childs could quite easily given us justifiable penalties however, as usual, he chose not to! When Liam Kay chased Ridyards kick down to score a glorious try Chris Riley deliberately tried to impede Liam from collecting the ball! Childs could have awarded Leigh a further two points for the foul but, he didn't! A couple of years ago he awarded Catalan an eight point try against us for their player being fouled during scoring! Again, Wakey game, he could have awarded us a penalty as Gregg McNally was fouled whilst chasing a free play but, he didn't ! Its these inconsistencies which draws my criticism of Childs! had a Leigh Player stuck his arm and felled a Wakey winger, as Lee Smith did to Liam Kay, I've no doubt whatsoever our player would have seen a red card! Kurt Haggerty was plain stupid kneeing the irritating Lee Smith, Childs could and perhaps should have given him a red card, the first offence was Smith gripping Kurts leg and preventing him from getting up, trying to milk a penalty, an action that was spotted by the officials who were prepared to play on! just another of Childs inconsistencies! Lets see how he goes on Sunday? I for one would prefer someone else!

Two different scenarios both dealt with correctly. Having said that Child does miss things but they all do.

That wouldn't be inconsistency, that would be cheating............refs don't cheat.
