Now is the time to back Leigh Centurions’ push forward as the club look to reclaim their rightful place among the biggest names in rugby league.
The club’s success so far this year now gives the Centurions the chance to seize their place in the First Utility Super League for 2016 when they face Hull Kingston Rovers on Saturday 8th August at Leigh Sports Village. Centurions are through to the Super 8s qualifiers against the bottom four from the First Utility Super League and top four from the Kingstone Press Championship. This is the first time the two divisions have been brought together and will see four teams take a place in the 2016 Super League. The borough is being urged to get behind the team as they look to use their strong position as league leaders to move forward. Leader of Wigan Council Lord Peter Smith said: “Leigh’s rich sporting legacy has brought much pride for the town. And now we are urging people in Leigh to show their support and back the Centurions in this, a pivotal time for the club, where they can bring great success and benefits to Leigh.” Leigh Centurions owner and head of rugby Derek Beaumont said: “The support of our loyal fans has been fantastic and it has been highly motivating to continue to invest and build towards the prospect of becoming a Super League club by their increased support, particularly families and young children. “It is increasingly encouraging to receive such support from Wigan Council in the run-up to this difficult yet exciting challenge. This builds upon their earlier support with the #BelieveInLeigh campaign with the civic reception and unveiling of the Star outside Leigh Town Hall in February. “It is something we welcome with open arms and are greatly appreciative of. The whole purpose of Leigh Centurions is to benefit the community and to give the people of Leigh something to be proud of that gives them the recognition that they deserve. “Paul Rowley and all of his team have so far done a fantastic job in delivering that and it would be sensational if we could add to that support to fill the fantastic stadium we have at LSV for that opening fixture. This isn’t a boom or bust mission but a structured and committed approach to achieve our goals over time.
