Squad 2016 : Tue Jun 30, 2015 7:48 am
Now we really know the team, who would you keep and who would you bin?

1. McNally / Pownall
2. Higson / Specner
3. Worthington / Haggerty
4. Armstrong / Pala
5. Kay / Acton
6. Ridyard / Reynolds
7. Brierley / Foster
8. Moi Moi / Emmitt
9. Beswick / Higham
10. Wilkes / Hock
11. Dixon / Sarsfield
12. Goulden / Tracey
13. Barlow / Hopkins

Out

Beamont
Aspinwall
Platt
Penky
Maden
Pitman
Walker

I've added two props in the wing position, as you wouldn't want 4 wingers, but you would need / want 6 props.

It depends what league you are in and despite all the who ahh about promotion and relegation coming back, unless you blitz the middle 8's which I think is unlikely for any Championship team, you are not going to know till late on what that league is. That makes it very difficult to sign players especially when you are talking about an extra 800K that can be spent.

You simply cant go out and ditch a lot of players because there wont be room on the cap to replace them with better if you do not go up but those same players that could be on the verge of getting rid of are not going to wait till the last minute to find out what league you are in, they are going to want to get themselves sorted for next season potentially strengthening a rival from this league. You then have the question of whether certain players are playing themselves out of the club by helping you get promoted. Its a very difficult situation to be in for any team in this league spending the full cap, the RFL know that and wont be making it easy for any team to make the jump, all we can hope is that if after a couple of years of no promotion Sky pressure them to tweek the rules.

I wouldn't "bin" anyone. If some of the players out on loan got offered a contract and thought that their careers were better served moving away I'd let them go but otherwise I'd keep hold, they're young and look promising for the future. From your out list providing they recovered from their injuries there's no way I'd let Penky or Platt go, both have been excellent this year. Maden is retiring anyway that's no secret. Aspinwall is getting on but has played well before he got injured, can see him moving more to being cover, playing in the reserves and taking on more of a training and coaching role rather than a 1st team playing one though. Beaumont looked very good but disappeared, now he's come back and done a season out on loan if he's proved himself (not seen him play properly sure Rowley has) I'd keep him. Pitman looked very good last season but not quite ready for the level we want to be at (could be in the future) but more than good enough for The Championship, can see someone coming in for him & him taking his chance. Same with Walker really, bit the Alex Brown of this year, came in with some fanfair but never really clicked in the team, went out on loan and did well elsewhere.
If we go up to SL I'd just look to add, with an extra £1,000,000 central funding and £0.8 million salary cap we can add players around what we've got and build a squad with cover in every position. If we don't go up then well I can't see us being far off, we've recruited over the course of the season and are still short of the £1 million salary cap, I don't see a lot of change needed.

If we did get promoted I would keep the squad above, and probably add another 3 players (Prop, Back Rower and a back) to give us strength in depth, with Spencer, Tracey and Pala playing reserves.

We can't keep all of these fringe players, we need to let some of them go so that we can clear space for bigger signings if we do get promoted.

I'm sure the RFL stated when they increased the salary cap in Championship that is was open to review should need come about.

For me Fui (probably get an ear bashing for this) struggled Saturday at that level. The hardest thing will be keeping hold of the players we have. Probably another ear bashing here but Brierley will get an offer he can't refuse at some point,as a club we would have to give serious consideration as we could strengthen with a couple of class players with his sale..

Therefore freeing up the fringe players for release.
