How Important are Fans? : Fri Aug 13, 2010 8:31 am
On occasion, I've read on this forum fans complaining about the club not communicating with them etc.etc. So, I had a stab of thinking why this was the case - that the club doesn't seem to take note of fans that much.
The thinking goes like this...
If one sponsor can put £100,000 into the club (as if!)...this is equivalent to 793 extra fans per home game, (£14 each, 9 league home games- forgetting playoff and NRC). In fact, the £100,000 is worth more than 793 fans per match because there aren't the overheads to include for playing a game at the LSV.
If you are limited on resources and effort, you can maximise your chances of bagging your 100k by wining and dining as many potential sponsors as you can rather than spend the effort on "marketing" to potential new fans in the community.
It simply comes down to trying to spend your limited time and money to get the best chance of some revenue. From a business point of view whether the cash come from lots of fans or one big sponsor is immaterial.
Of course the ability to attract bigger and better sponsors is a function of your fan base - which will be my next topic.
