The golden period was when we finished joint top but Russell Smith eyesight and twitchy whistle robbed us of the league.
I don't know the average attendance. All I know was it was a great period to be a Wire at games and the ground always felt pretty full to me....and as I said, it was 2011 before I felt that level of pitch performance and crowd levels in relation to neighbouring seasons were matched.

That doesn't mean in relation to the increase bounce because of the new ground.

We weren't joint top we were third and obviously going to finish third for a number of weeks leading up to the end of the season after losing to Bradford and Wigan. It's easy to blame Russell Smith but that title was lost away to a struggling Wakefield just prior to Christmas.

For somebody who can be so pedantic over the interpretation of your words referring to a single season as a golden period of a generation is stretching it somewhat or perhaps Sally was right all along.

So we can agree with Sally about nostalgia then when it comes down to it.

My opinion is subject to how I feel not as a point of fact and I didn't once rubbish any of Sally C comments other than question he be missing more. If anything I commended him on his posts.

So it's an agree if I didn't disagree.

We didn't lose the league because of Russell Smith. We lost it, in the words of Peter Higham, "because we threw the game at Leeds away early in the season".

Nostalgia is not what it was.

Nor is Davies. I find him very irritating on commentary.

I'd take 5k at wilderspool over 10/13k for atmosphere any day of the week and that's certainly not nostalgia.

I think that Davies certainly raised expectations and we faired well with him in the side.was it a long period no we were not consistant one year good some bad.

Neither glass half full or empty. Just a realist.

There's nowt wrong with a bit of nostalgia.

In my time of Wire watching, I've had 3 periods of it being a joy to go to WILDERSPOOL/HJ
Aug 85 - May 87
1993-94
2010,11,12
I couldn't wait for match days, leaving the house with a real spring in my step, knowing I was going to be properly entertained, and have the pleasure of seeing some RL greats.
So to me (as well as the duck) these WERE golden times.
A 6,000 - 7,000 crowd in 93/4 for atmosphere, was unequalled. The home and away fixtures v Cas that season, being cases in point.
To get to see one of the greatest players of his generation (Davies) was an absolute privilege.

Back on thread. Davies........
The man.
