Nothing to do with bottlers, all to do with just simply not being good enough.
We’ve done amazingly well this season and have surpassed expectations massively, but it’s time for Steve Price to be ruthless and get a half back partner for Blake Austin who isn’t Kevin Brown. Until he does, we’ll continue to fall short.
Agreed, as a Wigan fan (coming here in peace) your halves are awful. How Brown gets in the England team is beyond me. Hes been vastly over rated since he made his Wigan debut and scored 3 tries and Stevo went crazy about him. I personally never saw anything in him. Roberts had a storming game against us in the cup yet since then ive only ever seen him have shockers offering nothing. The biggest mystery for me though is why your coach had Thompson starting every game when by his own admission hes not good enough to keep next year?
Because given a long term injury to Ben currie he is the best we currently have available. He is being let go because it's a waste of cap space to have another second row.
It's not a coincidence, a few is unlucky, but 6 on the trot, 4 in the last 3 seasons alone is not by chance.
Warrington fail miserably to do the basics needed in the big finals. They don't have the mentality. They never did. In the CC beat a crap Huddersfield team and then easily beat a Leeds team twice who at the time had a hoodoo. The common factor was that the games were open and won early. But when it comes to the grind, set for set, taking chances, playing for field position Warrington have never had that in the big finals, and that's where titles are won.
Honestly next grand final Warrington play I'll know in the first 10 minutes if they have what it takes. Are they finishing the set properly, are their attacks organised? Are they restricting metres from the opposition coming out of their half?
I agree with the posts that we aren’t really good enough to be Grand Final winners at the moment. The effort and organisation is there, in defence at least, can’t argue with that. Full marks to Steve Price for the job he has done this season. I had us down for 6th this year and never thought we’d be close to a final so we have overachieved with what we’ve got.
We lack two things, game breakers and leaders, only through new signings can we put that right.
But good work Wire for 2018, I’ve enjoyed the year.
Too simplistic to say that every time the team that loses is a bottler, but where we have been poor for a while, and were tonight, was in attacking creativity in the final 10-20 metres, and I don’t think that’s bottling. But the kicking game was bad and the clueless plays on the 5th tackle stood out. But the defence was actually OK for a Grand Final, and hopefully Austin will create a spark for next season, and not be a total nutter, as most creative players from the NRL coming to SL tend to be
Sorry to be blunt but its what we are esp with what must go down as the worst half back pairing in donkey’s years.
Saints bottled it this year.
We bottled it in 2011, played well in 2012 but just missed out due to lack of experience and really bottled it in the second half in 2013.
The other finals we’ve lost were, for me, expected.
If we have the worst half back pairing in donkey’s years how have we bottled it exactly?
Six weeks ago I was saying how I thought we are about as average a side a you can get and we’d be lucky to make the top 4 with our form. Outside a run of 8 wins in the Spring we’ve been a below mid table side.
Getting to two finals and making fourth despite having such poor stats [outside those 8 wins in a row our season has been]: P24 W10 D1 L12
Not even won half the games we’ve played outside the 8 wins in a row. Even two of those wins were against a second string Catalans and a terrible Hull.
Bottlers is not the word for this team. I’d say overachievers and a damning indictment for the rest of this competition who couldn’t even get above us into the top 4 our beat us in cup games to get to both finals!
Oh I agree it’s a miracle we’ve got to two finals with that cack half back pairing but I still say losing six finals says final bottlers to me.Think we should invest in a psychologist as clearly they just freeze on the big day.

It's simple, not easy, but simple.
Yeah that’s fair enough and a lot of us have said it ourselves but as I keep saying; what does that say about the rest of the league and what the hell are the rest of them all doing?
We haven’t been anywhere near the best side in the country in the last five years yet in the last three years we’ve won the LLS, finished fourth once and got to four of six finals. What the hell is everyone else doing? We’ve got and had so many deficiencies that we should be a 5th-7th placed side, for me, maybe with the odd CC semi final.
What is everyone else doing that sees us keep overachieving? It’s not saying a lot for the rest of this competition, that’s for sure!
Two very poor half backs plus a very average and unfit Thompson, an over the hill Westwood, a less than average Hughes, a two stone overweight Murdoch-Masilla, a very poor GKing, no real back-up/interchange for Clark... yet we’ve had one LLS, a fourth placed finish and four of the last six finals made!
I thought the team gave a very good account of themselves & the difference between the teams was Tomkins who turned a very mediocre Wigan side into a champion side. He was the x factor that we are short of.
