Its been grinding to a halt for years..travel anywhere in this country there's always difficulties... Motorways are gridlocked 50 mile an hour speed limits.. Go by train you pay thru the nose and very rarely on time.....and there's always maintenance work when you want to go anywhere...
It's very true. Our infrastructure is just insufficient. By way of example I rode my motorbike from Malaga in Southern Spain to Le Havre in Northern France last month. About 1150 miles. I did it in a day and a half - no dramas. 1 set of road works in France, no queues anywhere and speed limits of 80MPH. Average speed about 65mph with stops. OK I had tolls of about £50 but that was offset by cheaper fuel.
Tomorrow I drive to Swindon and I know the M6 is a mess for 20 miles+ and then the 1 lane junction of the M6 and M5 south. 180 miles takes me ~4 hours. 45mph average.
