Nice to see Roberts smiling for the first time this season. Hopefully he’ll start to settle and enjoy himself when the temperature starts to rise a bit.

If my memory is right in the early days we tried to make Monaghan into a scrum half which I think he fancied. That didn't quite work out.

Roberts' kicking was very good against Catalans and that lovely "no look" pass to the 2nd wave runner in the first try.

I think both half backs got kicking & distribution right on a really horrible day.

Re: Roberts : Sun Mar 18, 2018 4:21 pm
Roberts was not one of the elite halfbacks of the NRL, he was probably a mid-ranking halfback who has mostly played in teams at the lower end of the table. He does, however, have a good highlights montage which suggests he has some spark to his game and isn't just a "work the team around the park" kind of halfback, which is why there was some excitement on here when he signed.

He has obviously had injuries and it could be that he is not fully fit and this is restricting the explosive parts of his game in which case he is playing a more limited game at the moment which is fair enough and we can hope to see more excitement from him over time.

Wire fans have high expectations from Aussie halfback signings, but the expectation isn't that they will all be Langer or Johns ability, the benchmark are guys like Greg Mackey and Nat Wood, who bought in to the spirit of the club and became real iconic Wire players. They were at the heart of their teams, lifted the other players and came up with big plays at important moments. Roberts from his NRL pedigree should be a player at least of the Mackey or Wood ability level so if he can show that kind of attitude he will be a very good signing.

The slight niggling fear I have with Roberts is that when I watched his highlights video the player he reminded me of was Denis Moran at London, and I would definitely take that kind of performance. Watching him so far with us, he reminds me of Denis Moran at Wigan. Sometimes these moves don't work out, like Moran didn't for the Pies.

I thought Roberts played well yesterday and pretty sure he'll end up being a quality half for us.

Yeah i thought his kicking game was really good,he's not afraid to tackle and happily takes on the line with no fear. he's getting fitter with every game and by the time summer is here and the ground is firm he will be fit and explosive and he'll be a lot better. I've got faith in him :-)

I’d rather have a slow burner who takes a few months to hit top form and get five good years out of him than a whirlwind that takes our breath away but then leaves after a year of his contract to go and work in mines.

Is there concerns with Roberts? Sometimes the quietness off our club speaks volumes

As noted on the forum, he's not exactly a high five guy...or is he?
Can the club begin a search for a player 100% for a move?
I believe it might be worth us having a talk with him.
See if his moral would boost if we agreed he could leave following the end of the 2018 season....and.in the mean time, we start a look for 2019.
