Ian Watson and Chris Chester : Sun May 28, 2017 4:23 pm
Two British coaches who appear to have significantly improved their clubs.

Salford have been garbage for years, including since the Koukash circus has been in town. Since Watson has been coach Salford seem to be in the headlines less but are winning a lot of games without being taken that seriously. I guess most people are expecting them to drop off at some point and make way for Wigan in the top 4, but they are hanging in there. Their season feels a bit like ours in 1993/94.

A couple of years ago Wakefield felt like they were edging closer and closer to the trapdoor but since Chester has been there they have been much more solid. I wonder if Hull KR think it was a good move with hindsight to sack Chester after the first 3 games of last season.

I expect both these clubs would want hefty compensation for taking their coach while under contact, but would we be happy with one of these two coming over to Wire?

Nope. Neither are of the standard we require and i think you know that. Then again at the minute i would take ANYONE that just played rugby league the way every single other team play. After seeing all the teams in super league and having watched all the summer bash we are the ONLY team that play this quick play the ball mid-field trundle....and as well as being anti-rugby it's ineffective.

Why are they not of the standard we require?

What's the qualification for being of the standard we require?
Being Australian?
Being an ex Wire player?
Having only coached reserve/youth team level?

Well i would say that they are decent mid-level coaches (yes i know where they sit in the league) but the way current super league standards are i guess they could be considered top coaches and am pretty sure both would be completely perplexed by Agar's 'tactics' and show him the door. So yes, sod it get em both in.

Hanging on? Yeah by the skin of our teeth.

Arrogant lover. If Watto left he'd go to a big club, not Wire. But I'm sure he's more tham happy at the minute doing a fantastic job at his hometown club. Jog on.

You seem to have completely misunderstood Sally C, who is praising Watson. You are equally wrong in seemingly dismissing Warrington as' not a big club'. If we were not a big club there would be no crisis about scraping in to the top eight, nor the desperate search for a solution.

I think if you read SC's last paragraph it basically implies that Wire could come and take either Watson or Chester if they wished and there would be little that little old Salford or Wakey could do about it. Typical attutude of fans of the so-called "big four" who think the world of Rugby League revolves around them and as soon as the likes of Cas, Salford & Wakey upset the applecart the toys start getting thrown out the pram.

And for a "massive club" am I wrong in believing that sh1tty old Salford have been crowned champions more recently than your lot?

Re: Ian Watson and Chris Chester : Sun May 28, 2017 9:13 pm
The toys aren't being thrown out of the pram. I think Salford and Wakefield are ahead of us and am asking other Wire fans if they would be interested in their coaches...

We have signed players from Salford before, eg Myler and Ratchford, and we have signed players from Wakefield before, eg Nat Wood and Westwood. In all these cases the players were under contract so we had to pay a transfer fee which is why I said we'd need to pay compensation.

Watson will know how fickle coaching is, job security at Warrington is better than Salford. If Salford hit a rocky patch next season and lose a few games badly will Koukash keep his nerve or will he be on Twitter saying this is not acceptable, I promise the fans I will take action blah blah and Watson will be getting his P45. At Wakefield remember what happened to Shane McNally, he made Wakefield a strong side with Ellis, Domic and co and then after a rough patch the next season the board booted him out to give the job to Tony Smith (the other one!), they went backwards fast...

So there's no need to be paranoid about this thread it isn't an insult to Salford and Wakefield, I am happy that they are doing well and as we are going to be nowhere near the top 4 at the end of the season I will probably end up rooting for Salford/Wakey at the business end of the year.

It is good that this season we have so called "lesser teams" challenging the status quo & perhaps it highlights the complacency within the so called "big 4". Let us not forget that all our teams have a proud history.
