Richard Agar Contract 2017- : Wed Sep 28, 2016 1:15 am
If my memory is correct he signed a 2 year deal for 2015 and 2016 when Tony renewed in 2014. Is anyone aware if he is getting/has an extension for 2017?

His contract is up at the end of the year so I think he'll probably leave quietly out of the back door. I'm guessing the club are aware that he's not been the most popular choice for assistant but with him being chums with Smith he'll probably leave with pat on the back and minimum fuss.

Personally I think he's been hard done by, he got the finger pointed at him when we were gash last year but all credit this year seems to be going to Smith. Kinda feel sorry for the guy, whenever he's been interviewed he's always come across as a decent bloke and quite knowledgeable.

Who next though? Too soon for Briers I think.

Do you think the club are bothered what the supporters think?

I'd like to think they do, as we're the ones they're trying to convince to part with our hard earned cash each week.

When Agar was getting the finger pointed at him by fans last year when we were playing crap he seemed to disappear for months after being on the pitch before games with the players, I think it was a deliberate move by the club to take him out of the firing line

I think considering he was pillared last year when we weren't so good that he should be praised this year when we have been much, much better. I wouldn't be disappointed if he was given another contract, at the minute it feels like we are building again so stability would be a good thing. We have had ups and downs this season the same as everyone else but we've played some brilliant stuff and in my eyes taken part in almost all of the memorable games this season, some we have won and some we have lost.

Let me rephrase that... Do you think Tony Smith is in the slightest bit bothered about what the supporters think?

We don't really know what he does or how he interacts.
We just see the end result of the efforts of the club staff on the pitch.
Because we didn't plan properly - or at least our plans weren't fulfilled - we ended up in a mess last year.
Ultimately the buck stops with TS.
If Agar has significantly contributed to the direction that's one thing, if he's carrying out TS's wishes but argued against the direction in private that's another.

If the results come TS will take the plaudits but should not take them too much to heart.
If the results don't come TS should not take the flak too much to heart if his vision is sound.

I think the club and Tony Smith do care what the fans think. But that doesn't mean they should take the slightest notice of who fans think should be Assistant Coach (or any other employee for that matter) as most of us wouldn't know what we were talking about (in a professional sense).

I'd be quite happy for him to stay on, the issues in 2015 were all down to TS in terms of poor planning 6 & 7 and poor acquisitions in key positions (Asotasi).

That said, as Catalan seem to be saying good bye to half of their club at present, if there was an opportunity to bring Mick Monas back to the club, I'd welcome it...

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

Genuine question, what makes you thin he is a good assistant? I'm not saying he isn't any good just not sure what the evidence is?
