It's a sad state of affairs when we have to wait for two fans of other clubs to start an argument on here. Surely we can argue amongst ourselves ?
Back on topic, I think the standard of RL has dropped significantly. Against Hudds our passes were going all over the shop - bouncing off players shoulders, Sims having to stop his run to collect a ball that was going behind him. The only decent ball handling sequence occurred early in the match when Sandow started that passing movement that ended with Currie scoring under the posts. Even Sandow was throwing passes to the floor instead of to Gidley. The team looked as though they were a bunch a athletes that were trying out rugby for the first time. Then there was the last quarter of the match where both teams seemed to be competing at synchronised knock-ons.
In the first half does anybody remember Russell fielding a Brough kick in his own 10m, then making a very poor and risky pass to Ratchford ? For a microsecond I thought great, Ratchford has the ball now, at least he will be a bit more sensible. Oh no, he makes an equally risky pass, but this time it's even worse and ends up on Rhys Evans's bootlaces. Fortunately Evans does really well to collect and then make some decent yardage.
This is all basic rugby - passing the ball to the man so it hits his bread basket and timing it such that he runs onto the ball. Similarly, not taking undue risk in your own 10m and losing the ball to the opposition. It was no wonder the South stand was so quiet for most of the game and the chants were largely only noticed by their absence. And yet........... this is certainly not the first time we have displayed such poor technique, yet we are second in the table only one point behind the leaders. So no, I don't think it's a coincidence that most fans are bemoaning the state of their teams. The standard of rugby is poor, the quality of the product is low, and at the HJ our attendances our only holding up because of our position in the league and a possible Wembley visit.
