THAT Friday night game v Wigan, which Sky were going to show, but changed their minds.
We were 12 nil down within a handful of minutes, and we looked like we'd be lucky to get nil. Then, queue a masterclass from Alfie and Briers. We're then coasting it, only for Wigan to mount a bit of a comeback, and Penny scores a 40 yard blinder to settle it. Plenty of Guinness drunk straight after. SUPERB.

That was a good night. I can't remember who they switched to but I recall it was a one side affair.

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

And let's not forget the rather marvellous response the players gave upon being villified for being leathered at a BBQ the night before - 'It wasn't a BBQ it was a hangi' - well that's alright then.

So I'm guessing they were suffering with a hangi over the next day...

I think that's why I get so fed up with some of our miserable "supporters" on this forum. Some don't really know how lucky we are.

Are they miserable or just hungry for success?

Looking through the squad for that season...(shudder) Although who would have thought Kidwell would turn out to be a superstar, although not with us naturally.

Dedicated to preserving the history of rugby league in Warrington

Re: God, what a season that was... : Mon Nov 23, 2015 6:39 pm
Whilst it clearly didn't seem it at the time, that season laid the foundations for the upsurge in our fortunes: Briers given the captaincy, Cullen brought in, Nat Wood and SBW coming in. A season of mediocrity under Andersen or Plange might not have seen this happen. As it was, all these factors were at the heart of us moving towards a solid mid-table/fringe play-off team on the brink of something bigger. Two of these players were crucial in our success under Smith, who also benefited from a lot of the players Cullen brought in.

I'm a glass half full man, so I look back on the season more positively than most! But we were sh@t!! I remember traipsing to the Boulevard though, purely cos I'd never been and it was our last game there, expecting a kicking and we came up trumps:Briers hat-trick of DGs IIRC? As ever in sport, unexpected wins in adversity seem the most sweet, and when you're down in the depths, the only way is up!

It's why I think a small part of me will be disappointed the day we finally win the Championship, as I know that we'll have set a new water mark that makes it harder to ever feel the same way, as expectations change. And it's why on one level I pity Leeds fans now, as deep down they know their team reached its zenith this year, and they'll never top it.
