Sol didn't go through the correct procedure to have RL recognised officially and didn't renew his Visa, UAERU seized the opportunity. The international Rugby Union governing body (IRB?) came out against the UAERU's move I believe and I think Sol's back in the UK now.

RL has existed in the UAE since 2007. Recently Nissan came on board as a sponsor and a RLWC 2021 bid was mooted. The RU subsequently convinced the autorities that they have the sovereignty over all forms of rugby. Their first act as RL governing body was to disband the sport.

Meanwhile the IRB has turned a blind eye to the whole sorry affair.

That is truly amazing, but maybe a properly formulated official approach from Superleague to the right people in Dubai could easily resolve the situation. This could even be the shot in the arm our sport needs.....drop "rugby" & stop all the meddling & petty jibes from the Twickers crowd.
Let our game stand alone & away from the shadow RU.

And to think two Rugby League legends' sons are playing on opposite sides in the rugby union grand final this weekend is quite saddening for me. And seeing Sam Burgess there really irks me!

loving underhand sport that union is. From the Vichy, to the treatment of Welsh RL players by their own country, to the purposeful under-representation of our sport by the media, and now to this.
