There are enjoyable games but it's too complicated, the ref gets the opportunity to blow up for any number of offences at the maul and scrum and none of us is ever the wiser as to why he's chosen foul A over foul B, the kicking in general play seems to me to be fairly aimless, it's a simple bash-a-thon up front, when it does get out to the backs there is often not enough room, and don't get me started on the points system (it really is cr@p). With an expert drop goal kicker any half decent side would win as the difference to scoring a try is minimal.
I love a sport when scoring more tries often dicates who wins, where there is more room because there's less players, where there's more running and where the ball is in play to a greater extent.
Mmm. Ah yes - rugby league.
Fez, I agree with all of this and I've played schoolboy RU (that'll learn me to pass the 11+) and here's another admission I quite enjoy the internationals TBH, apart from the Inverdale/Gusscott tripe that goes with it on TV.
When I questioned the points difference for kicking and try's to a real Union aficionado pal of mine he countered that the clue was in the name. In other words, originally crossing the line gave you a
try at kicking the goal for the points and the relative importance of each score is something that's changed over time.
Not sure how true it is, but, it shut me up for a bit, which was no bad thing as I was lagging behind on the Guinness drinking stakes
