Yes, I know, my point still stands. Unless they can fit him into the side (which is by no means a dead-cert) he won't play.

The title of this thread is spot on, he is wasting his amazing talent by playing union.
We all know the reason for it but surely he realises it's a mistake for him.

Sam has similar potential as SBW.
Good on him, there are very few players with that opportunity.
With every opportunity comes some risk, you don't achieve your optimum potential listening to the doubters and playing it safe all the time.

From what I've seen recently and with a recent upsurge in the numbers of centres playing well for England RFU it may be that Sam will struggle to get in (ever??). He's big enough, tough enough and a good distributor but there are other centres with more pace who know the game. If he goes into the pack he has even more to learn.

I think this is it. He is aiming to play centre for England just at the time when they have discovered a couple of creative players (ironically two of them including Eastmond from the RU club he's playing for) capable of outside breaks and neat footwork, after years of being pilloried for having too many battering rams at centre. I actually think that Burgess is a better battering ram than many they have used, and a couple of years ago he would pretty much have got into the England team by now, but the current enthusiasm is for a different style of player. And I agree he'd be best used as a back row forward, but in that case he should focus on the 2019 RU World Cup.

We've probably all heard this, but it bears repeating. The great Jonathan Davies:

On a guest appearance on A Question of Sport in 1995 he was asked what the biggest change was after returning to rugby union. Davies replied "It's the first time I've been cold for seven years. I was never cold playing rugby league."

Anyone who says Ru is boring must be watching something different to me. The premiership has some quality rugby on show. England Ru also has alot of Rl plays ie lots of dummy runners etc etc. This 6 nations has been enjoyable to watch

RU is the only sport in which i don't support England, i love seeing them get beat, if i absolutely had to pick a team it would be New Zealand as they at least throw it around.

Apparently Salford's NZ fullback Kevin Locke has been given permission to talk Scottish Rugby Union about a move. Another one to the dark side.

Re: What a waste-Sam Burgess : Tue Feb 24, 2015 7:32 pm
I watched some live super 14 RU at the weekend at the request of my rugby league playing and watching 7 year old. After about 5 minutes he turned to me and complained "why do they keep kicking it? It's rubbish when they kick it".

I like RU but for the gamecraft and tactics and the range of skills on show. It doesn't rival RL in terms of out and out action like RL in my opinion.
