Farrell has also has been taking a lot of stick. However there are calls for a certain Mr Edwards to take over England ... sure I've heard the name before.

The problem with England RU over the years is they could only win ugly with dull spoiling tactics against the better nations. If these other nations show up with their A game England are totally screwed because they don't have the ability to play an expansive game.

He is the unwitting lightning rod for every qualm and criticism of this raw England team. Hence the ‘Blame Burgess’ phenomenon, spreading like wildfire in league’s core constituencies. Stuck in a traffic jam? It must be Burgess’ fault. Charged 5p for a carrier bag this week? That will be Sam again. Volkswagen’s rogue diesel emissions software? Undoubtedly, Burgess’ giant paws are all over it.

I fully expect to get slated for this, but what is the point of a thread gloating about England crashing out of a World Cup? I am Irish so may take a little joy out of it, but I wish they had went a bit further.

I don't understand some RL fans laughing at their own country nor do I see the comparison they try to make with RL when in effect they are only 3 RL national teams who are credible and England is in 3rd place.

Surely you loose the chip for 6 weeks and support your country? Or as the case may be, buy a green jersey and pretend to have some Irish relatives; everyone does.

You didn't understand the post at all.
It's not the fact that England crashed out of the World cup that I'm laughing about. it's the fact that they crashed out of the World cup and a lot of people are blaming Rugby League in the shape of Sam Burgess as the reason for their demise!!
In contrast we didn't hear that Jason Robinson scored their only try in their World Cup win a few years back!!
