I was surprised when we let him him go. Is he the greatest hooker in the world? No, but his energy, enthusiasm and, most importantly, understanding what the club had been through would have been essential to building the team.
I'm not saying every player who was on the books during the financial crisis should have been kept on, but more of a nucleus should have been retained and along with Jewitt and Broughton, he would been a good choice. I firmly believe Godwin's character would definitely have helped with the transition, if nothing else he'd have proved a more able deputy than Howarth.
Anyway, if he shows the same level of effort as last time round, he should be a welcomed addition.
